Found the bugger. It had taken refuge on the freecontent page....

*sigh* One little mis-click apparently. One moment it was there and then it was gone. Trying to set up web sites with a squirming three-year-old on your lap is dangerous.

Chalk this one up to user error.

Ok, I don't know what I did. My Who's Online block disappeared. I'd like to make it visible on my /modules/istats screen but I can't find it to activate it.... I checked group permissions and it is checked for webmasters but it doesn't appear in the block menu of the admin section.

What did I do? And how do I undo it?

Grab Mozilla/Firefox here:
http://www.mozilla.org/

The Mozilla/Firefox WebDeveloper extension can be found here:
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/webdeveloper

For more info on what it does:
http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/features/

For a really good selection of other extensions (different sites showing same/similiar extensions in case one is down):
http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/
http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/

Truth be told, if I didn't have the above extension I'd still be totally lost with theme modifications. I learned more about css from it than any book or class could have taught me. Just knowing what classes were applied to what elements in the theme while looking at the theme makes a world of a difference.

No affiliation with Moz, blah blah blah. I'm just a pretty darn happy user.

This might help you out. Download the following image which lists what css codes are used for each element in each of your themes. This is the easiest starting point.

http://207.212.67.81/legends/storage/css_codes.jpg
(IMAGE WILL BE DELETED IN ABOUT A MONTH)

Another method I use is to screenshot the existing theme and pull into Photoshop so I can sample colors and then search for those color codes in the theme so I can replace them with what I want.

For those that are curious, I used the webmaster plug-in extension for Firefox/Mozilla to show those codes. Very useful little tool that will show lots of other webpage information and point you towards code optimizations.

I have stumbled upon people with browsers who haven't been able to use the editor. It's sad but what can you tell them. Please exchange your $3000 Mac to a cheapo PC! Right!

What can people that use non-IE browsers suggest to you? Please use an editor that is cross-platform compatible! Right!

I'm looking forward to the Koivi (???) editor that is under development. It appears to have much better cross-browser compatibility.

This sounds like a great idea -- a general maintenance and tune-up module.

I ran across a Backup block not long ago that backs up your site's database and stores on the website or emails to you. It would be nice to merge that functionality too.

Auto-login hack

I just installed GI Joe's latest autologin for 2.0.7.3. However, I can't get it to function properly. I have installed previous versions without any luck either but I'm persistent.

I'll step-by-step here in case I missed something important.

1) Downloaded the new file from GI Joe's site:
http://www.peak.ne.jp/xoops/modules/mydownloads/

2) Uploaded and overwrote the files as instructed.

3) Updated system module.

4) Edited mainfile.php to set expiration to one month.

It sounds so simple.... One thing that I'm wondering about is whether having the site in a sub-directory (as a sub-site) would make a difference. Instead of being in /html it is in /html/legends.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, I was planning to do the same.

Real life however is getting in the way again so I'm picking my battles. On the upside, only 2 of their users are at 800x600 so I'm not toooooo concerned. But the perfectionist in me is going to make me go back and do it right sooner than later.

Thanks to more people than I can start to list, I've converted this site over from phpNuke to Xoops. These forums are awesome. I've learned more about css and php in the last few months than I though possible. And truth be told, it wasn't that painful....

Legends of Greyhawk is a support site for the Neverwinter Nights persistent world of the same name. It's a group of roleplayers that have created a world that is online 24/7 with game masters that introduce new storylines frequently. The website gives the players and game masters a place to coordinate, discuss and comment on the game and the game world.

Please note that it's a closed membership site built by me but run by others than myself so please keep that in mind when viewing and be considerate of the folks there. I wanted to post the site as an example in case anyone else is doing similiar things with their website that I might be able to help with. The only things that you cannot see as a non-member are the private forums, so no need to register really.

Post comments/criticisms/suggestions here, not on the linked website forums. Thanks!

I'm considering converting to a two column format since I really don't need a right-hand column.

Downloads aren't hooked up right now. All of our files are accessed via ftp so I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to add that option.

I'm soooo looking forward to NewBB2 so I can hide the hidden forums.

The server isn't dedicated so it lags at times. Sorry.

Ok, enough of my apologizing.... http://log.game-host.org is the address.
