Re: Splash screen before getting to website

I think the easier way to do what you want to do is to put the site in a subdirectory. That way the links will all point to the right place (you'll have to do some minor editing to the SQL files and the mainfile.php, but that's about it...it's not too hard.)

I'd caution about splash screens, though. We have one on ours just because it was kind of a design requirement. (Long story.) But we have it set with a cookie so it only runs the first two times the site is visited and then nevermore.

5 bucks for 10MB? Sorry to barge in but thats a little expensive for such little.

And 25MB will get you little for a XOOPS site especially with modules, graphics, and much more.

Ouch. Bad typo. I left a zero off the end of those figures. And it appears they changed the rates a bit, anyway. I think (don't quote me on this!) that it's $4/month now for 100 MB and $8/month for 250 MB. There are extra features/service (I don't know what they are; maybe part of the setup) that are an extra $1/month. (I think this is geared mostly toward their design clients, most of whom don't know how to set up their own email boxes, etc.)

Re: Twilight Media & Design

I believe that that the $5/month rate is for 10MB. I'm not sure of the bandwidth, but we're a fairly busy site and we've not run into any bandwidth problems (although we have a 50MB plan, so I'm guessing the bandwidth is different). The $10/month rate is for 25MB, which is probably a lot more realistic for a small-to-medium XOOPS site.

Twilight Media & Design

For the record, Twilight Media & Design (www.TwilightMD.com) offers hosting that supports XOOPS. There are at least a half-dozen XOOPS sites currently hosted there (including those of us at GLOAMING.us). The basic rates are $5 per month, but I think XOOPS requires more disk space than the $5 rate covers, so it would be more likely to run $10/month. The hosting does feature CPanel as the user controls, so it's very user-friendly, and phpMyAdmin is included.

Re: Post your feature requests for the newBB

I've posted various suggestions that are scattered throughout this system, and I don't know how many I can remember or how many someone else mentioned and I forgot, but here are the ones I can remember:

1. Ability to allow anonymous posts by registered users on a per-thread or per-forum basis.

2. Ability to move a post (or post/children) to another existing thread or to a a new thread.

3. Integrate the polls/bb system

4. "Mark all messages in forum read/unread"

5. Quick reply

6. Batch upload of smilies

7. Ability to easily disable smilies and avatars

I know there's other stuff, but everyone else has probably posted it by now.

Re: IP address log?

Thanks guys. That did it!

IP address log?

Is there a way to log the IP addresses of users who post in newbb?

I've got a user who apparently lacks the maturity of the typical two year-old, and I've banned him for blatantly inappropriate conduct, and I'd like to prevent him from creating a new account...or at least make it inconvenient for him to do so. Hence, I'd like to initiate an IP ban on him.

Only problem is...I can only seem to get his IP address when he is online. Any ideas?

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED...all of my posts disappeared!

Never mind. Figured it out. Just needed to comment out the appropriate parts of the dump file.

Carry on...nothing to see here....

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED...all of my posts disappeared!

One more thing...

I can get the posts to upload just fine if I redact the downloaded table down to about 500 posts at a time. The problem, of course, is that I can upload the first 500 posts without a problem, but when I upload the second batch, it deletes the first batch.

Is there a way in PHPmyAdmin to upload records without deleting the existing records? That would entirely solve my problem.

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED...all of my posts disappeared!

Something else...

I just attmepted to download the table for the posts, and it showed no data. So, I'm wondering...at this point, it won't do any harm to delete the table and let the SQL upload create it fresh, right? (I know NOTHING about SQL...)
