I can understand your point, John, and agree that people should be able to do what ever make s/he feel comfortable with.
However, there are reasons why paid for modules might questionably be, in most circumstances, private assets.
If a person/company pays for XOOPS development and the freely available modules they use, pay for new bespoke modules, and then say: "these are my assets" - fair enough, you bought the house and want to keep the furniture.
But if a person/company draws on other people's efforts and then pay only for special features just to keep them private, is a bit disrespectful, isn't it?
There might be a point for such a behaviour, if the reproduction of the materials included a substantial cost in it. But when it's a question of a space available for a simple copy of a bunch of numbers - red neon lights that say "why not" begin to flash in ever increasing rate and height...

The blurb about xoosphere gives a certain impression XOOPS version 2.2 exists. (Because it promises a backwards compatibility to it..)
For the untrained, like me, it might take a little while to understand..

Hummmm... Why would someone pay for a new module and *not* provide it for the whole community??
Isn't it a way to pay back?
Xoops is a platform made with time and efforts being offered freely - if I come to a free party, the wine bottle is to share...

..yes, the post-it feature on pukiwiki is really wacky.. Could do with better integration of rss though..

re. dokuwiki. I really like it's simplicity and menu making feature, but the integration with XOOPS is still a bit flacky...

Where do I find bwiki..?

Hi,

Is it:

a - OK to pay for modules made for specific requirements?
b - Make such modules available free to the whole community?
c - What are the price ranges for module hacking and production?

Thanks!

Hi,

There's a tutorial on how to make RSSfit plugins to work with, theoretically, any other module - but that tutorial seems a bit confusing.

The example bellow is with mylinks..

* How do I know which databases needed to be queried with other modules?

*
.$xoopsDB->prefix("mylinks_text")." t WHERE l.status > 0 AND l.lid = t.lid ORDER BY date DESC"
seems to be matched with mylinks module - how can it be matched with other modules?

function grabEntries(&$obj){
        global
$xoopsDB;

$ret = array();

$i 0;

//    The following example code grabs the latest entries from the module MyLinks

$sql "SELECT l.lid, l.cid, l.title, l.date, t.description FROM ".$xoopsDB->prefix("mylinks_links")." l, ".$xoopsDB->prefix("mylinks_text")." t WHERE l.status > 0 AND l.lid = t.lid ORDER BY date DESC";

$result $xoopsDB->query($sql$this->grab0);
        while(
$row $xoopsDB->fetchArray($result) ){

$link XOOPS_URL.'/modules/'.$this->dirname.'/singlelink.php?cid='.$row['cid'].'&lid='.$row['lid'];

/*
        * Required elements of an RSS item
        */
        //    1. Title of an item

$ret[$i]['title'] = $row['title'];

//    2. URL of an item

$ret[$i]['link'] = $link;

//    3. Item modification date, must be in Unix time format

$ret[$i]['timestamp'] = $row['date'];

//    4. The item synopsis, or description, whatever

$ret[$i]['description'] = $row['description'];

/*
        * Optional elements of an RSS item
        */
        //    5. The item synopsis, or description, whatever

$ret[$i]['guid'] = $link;

//    6. A string + domain that identifies a categorization taxonomy

$ret[$i]['category'] = $this->modname;

$ret[$i]['domain'] = XOOPS_URL.'/modules/'.$this->dirname.'/';

$i++;
        }
        return
count($ret) > $ret false;
    }
}
?>

Thanks for any ideas...

Ah.. Well... Got tired trying to wrestle with dokuwiki, and realised the new version of wiwi is not too bad..

BTW, another decent wiki is pukiwiki fromhttp://www.bluemooninc.biz/~xoops2/modules/mydownloads/
