Getting rid of the uploader.php that came with last week's version of the wfchannels module and replacing it with the stock uploader.php fixed the problem.

I presume the bug has been fixed with wfchannels, but this has been too big a pain to fool with again at this point.

I was referring to the uploads.php problem referred to in this thread:https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=14004&forum=11#forumpost56700

To quote:

Re: Avatar problems
I've had the same Problem on this Site and now it has migrated to my Sites as well.

I tracked it down on my site this morning. My problems began when I installed the new release of wfchannels. The uploader.php file was the problem on my sites. I uninstalled the uploader.php which I installed as instructed with wfchannels and replaced it with original uploader which was released with XOOPS latest version. It now works perfect.

There are too many problems with the new module releases. We need a quality assurance team to test them prior to offical releases.

Mmm.... I added the new WFchannels module last week and see in some other threads there have been some problems there. Could that be it? Would just removing the module fix the upload permissions problem?

I've had no problems with avatars until this week. Suddenly, any avatar (custom from user or added by admin) uploaded has no permissions on the server and permissions cannot be changed in the server's control panel.

All avatars that were uploaded prior to this week display properly, have proper permissions and the permissions can be edited. Everything normal.

Any avatar uploaded now will not display because the permissions are wrong and cannot be changed from the control panel. This is really weird. Any ideas?

What does work is to simply use the XOOPS core code for autologin by simply editing the commented-out autologin code back in. Just go here for instructions:http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=XoopsAutoLoginHack

I have to hand it to XOOPS for making a large project easy. This site was literally launched with just a week or so of preparation and building.

Just three weeks into the launch, it already went to a "5" in the Google rankings. That shows me that the XOOPS core design is search engine friendly. Now into the sixth week, we are starting to hit the 1,500 daily unique visitor range and growing. Again, I think XOOPS should get the credit for creating a platform that is easy to work with and modify to be whatever you want it to be.

Take a look at Blogger Forum.

Any suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. I had an autologin hack working briefly with 2.0.3 and lost it when I upgraded to 2.0.5. I then installed the most recent hack that was supposed to be for 2.0.5 (I'll call it the GI Joe hack --we need to start clarifying what hacks we're talking about) and it does not work for me. Everything is done exactly as instructed included setting sessions to "on".

here's how I handled that since I did not want my opening page to resolve in a sub-directory.

I wanted recent formum topics as the most important. I then wanted the latest news with a listing of the other news topics. The perfect solution was the Spotlight module. It will display the full most recent news item with links to other news topics. This could be the first feature on your home page instead of the second, like I have. See what I mean at www.bloggerforum.com

From what you are saying about not being able to even add content, I get the feeling that maybe you have overlooked the very basics. Even though XOOPS has the modules to handle articles bundled with the XOOPS package, you actually have to install the additional modules that take care of what you want.

The Sections module (I renamed it "Articles" in my site) will take care of much of what you want. Just go to "System Admin" and then "modules." You need to work with this quite a bit with the users permissions (to allow the groups you want to be able to access and/or read arcticles) and user groups (to create the different groups you want). I wouldn't worry about some of the fancier modules until I got comfortable with user permissions, block display and editing, and a whole lot of other basic XOOPS administration issues.

I'm sorry if this was too basic, but it looks to me like you're missing the basic steps before getting into whether you can display in Russian, etc.

Thanks. I think the thing for me to do is put together some FAQs on the subject that my non-registered users can access.

I tried duplicating the problem they are reporting by changing my own firewall settings and changing the browser's security and cookie settings.

As you know, it is about impossible to duplicate what everyone out there has or does.

Also, I have heavily hacked XOOPS to allow long term cookie settings. That could also be contributing to the problem.
