Why two seperate forums?

One reason is that I have TWO distinctly different sets of users, and each set of users needs a set of forums/catagories.

I know that some of this can be resolved by permissions and user groups. But there are some "crossover" users that could use BOTH forums, that too could be solved with permissions/groups.

But I also want the two forums to look different and have different settings and permissions.

Because some of the forum modules are just updates of older modules, they also seem to have different MySQL database tables, which measn it is a pain in the butt to re-insert the data (Different fields etc).

Some of us just want TWO seperate forum modules.

Thanks

Multiple Forums or Cloned Forum modules?

Hi, I have looked around and seen this asked in other threads, but have seen no satisfactory answers or solutions.

I (And others appearently) am in need of running TWO seperate, discrete forums on my XOOPS 2.2.3 site.

It would be good if I could run TWO CBB forums (One of them a clone) OR TWO *different* forum modules.

I am weary of the bbpixle modules because they have twice crashed my site and I don't like all of the modifying of core files.

I am too dumb to go about clonging modules on my own, but perhaps someone else has done this? Or would be interested in doing this?

Re: Wonderfull Xoops Memberinformation and registration hack example

Oh please...please please please release this as a module!

I am absolutly DYING for something like this!

I tried playing with the theaterman module, but just couldnt get it working, then I played with that same developers "nodez" CMS, which I thought interesting because it didnt use MySQL or anything like that....but I couldnt get that working very well, and it looks like the guy just gave up on it.

I *REALLY* need something like theaterman, or this hack/module thats being discussed here!

Which I know I wont find, but here's a tip for those interested in it. There is a huge demand for this right now between industry professionals and noone has created anything good at all. So if you make one you may just rock the market with something seriously in demand.
Make it paypal & CC acceptable and you will score big time.

I'd be willing to pay for such a mod if its secure and does what i need. - any true developers interested?

BUMP!

I am looking for a module such as this too!
I have some LEGAL files and mp3 I'd like to sell.

Is there anything around that someone could
point out to me?

Hi, I wasnt sure exactly where to post this, so I put it here.

I have had just a couple of people email me and tell me that they couldn't log in to my site to post to the forum.
This hasnt been a problem for me or a couple of other people, but I am hoping that maybe a couple of people here could go register and try to log in to my site just to make sure it is working?

That way I can identify if it is something that those users are doing wrong, or a problem on their end, or if it is within my site.

The site is:
http://www.topekadiy.com

If you wish to make a test post, perhaps make it in the "BabbleOn" forum:
http://www.topekadiy.com/newbb+viewforum.forum+13.htm

And IS there a "Peer site review" forum or section on this site? If not, then maybe there SHOULD be?
A place where we can post these "Come look at my site and tell me whats wrong or right" type of posts?

Thanks!
Cheers
Tuna

Wow! This seems to work great on my site so far!

http://www.topekadiy.com

Now I am currious to see if my search rankings start going up?

Now here is a question that I should probably sugest in the module requests forum:

I have seen sites that have a "make shorter url" form such as:
http://punk-list.org/
(Thats not a XOOPS site)

Orhttp://notlong.com/
I am sure there are hundreds of these kinds of url forwarding sites.

But what about a module that does this that we could use on our sites? It would give the user a simple form, allow them to paste in an url, and get a much shorter url back out of it.

Anyway, thanks for the hack!

Is there any progress in this subject?
I'm new to XOOPS - previously used PostNuke - and really liked the autolinks module.

Actually I could not believe a CMS like XOOPS didn't have this module as a core module!

I am very interested in such a thing as well! Has there been any movement on this?

I really wish I had the skills and knowledge to code modules and such, but I have so many different things going on that I dont really have time to learn how to do this.

So I very much appreciate everyone elses efforts!

What did you want anyway? dictionary?

Did you get the autolinking working?

Richard

Yes, I got autolinking working, thanks!

What I want is...the WORLD! The stars and the moon!

I have a use for dictionary, AND wordbook, but now I am discovering that for what I really want to do is a SECOND CMS/AMS module (Im using zmagazine for my current news)
But I want an "In depth" area on my site where I can present in depth collections of artcles, information and maybe entire books seperated into chapters. At this point I am thinking that I could just use wf-sections for that because I think it will install alongside zmagazine, and I can then create the various catagories and sub-sections that I'll need.

I think I can configure that to work like:

Catagory 1: Cats
Subsection 1 Book about cats
--Chapter 1
--Chapter 2
--Chapter 3 etc
Subsection 2 Articles about Cats
--Artiles from newspaper A
--Articles from newspaper B
--Articles from Magazine A
Subsection 3
Pictures of Dead Cats
--Roadkill Cats
--Roadkill Recipes
--Roadkill Trophies

Catagory 2: West Memphis 3
Subsection 1 Book 1 about WM3
--Chapter 1
--Chapter 2
--Chapter 3 etc
Subsection 2 Book 2 about WM3
--Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3 etc
Subsection 3 Articles about WM3
--Articles from source A
--Articles from source B etc

NOW, the trick is to have words and terms within those articles autolink to definitions and entries within the wordbook, and vice-versa.

So that way when someone is reading an article in the West Memphis 3 catagory and see's the name "Jerry Driver" they will be given a link to his biography/info in the wordbook, and vice versa.

Would wf section be good to use in this capacity? Or is there a more able AMS/CMS modules for this?

Cheers
Tuna....probably trying to do too much with one web site

Ive got this working, but my problem is that I cant find the database with all of the entries!
I can enter my OWN entries just fine, but I could swear that an earlier version of this had a pre-made database that you could upload and populate its database with a lot of words and definitions?

Where can I find that databse/sql file?

Is there somewhere I can download complete dictionary databases that will install neatly into the dictionary modules database table?

Ive search all over and have not found anything. I want to populate my dictionary with a lot of words/definitions.

Also, is there a wordbook encyclopedic database that I could download somewhere to do the same thing as the dictionary database?

Also, how do I make the autolinking function in wordbook to work?

Thanks
cheers
