Yeah, that's what I thought. I figured I would check before I did something I might regret. :)

As for the second question, I am ok with leaving the banners where they are, but a little help on how to get them to link correctly to the XOOPS ad manager or to phpadsnew would be helpful.

Until anyone else posts with advice, Ill be in the corner, reading my XOOPS docs, looking for answers.

Thanks again for your reply.

site stats and banner tracking....

I am having a hard time getting any site statistics to show on my site.

Now, let me first say that I am convinced its something I am doing, not a fault of the developers.

OK, now that we got that out of the way...I am using istats and googlestats. Neither seem to show up any stats on my site. I thought I placed the code correctly into my footer.php but I could be wrong.

any help with that would be apprecoated.

Next up, is banner ad tracking. I created blockes into which I threw linked banners. I want to track them and am currently looking through different ad modules. I thought I would ask and see which ones people on XOOPS like the best and which ones are pretty quick and easy to get up and running out of the box.

Thanks again,

moving blocks up and down...???

Again, I expose myself for a noob by asking a question I probably should be able to figure out myself.

How can I move blocks up and down on the left and right sides? I'm assuming it has to do with weight. most of my blocks are weighted 0 and the ones I created are weighted 1. If I change the weight to the blocks weighted 0, say to 2, will that push the blocks weighted to 1 up to the top?

Question part 2: I am planning on advertising on my site. I would like to designate specific areas for it, I do NOT want to create a new block for each ad, so what I have done is code the layouts in html and put them all in a block. Now, if I am using phpadsnew(...which I still cant get to work, along with my site stats, but thats a question for another day....)if Iam using phpadsnew for my site, that should allow me to track them. I'm not too sure, since again, I cant seem to get it to work right. I can get my images linked, but no stats....ugh....anyway...

the question is, is this the correct way to get multiple banners in a block, or is there an easier way?

Thanks for the help. I apologize for spelling errors in this post, its nearly 230AM and I'm waaay too tired to look it over again.

Keith

I seem to notice that while I can stay in admin mode for hours, if I go to my homepage, it constant ly logs me out. I can still update my site in the admin mode window---( I generally keep one window open in admin mode and then one open to the site, so i can see changes made.)It just seems odd, because admin mode recognizes that I am signed in, but the site doesn't. It isnt a cookie issue, my cookie settings are fine. Hell, it isnt even really THAT big a deal for me, but for my site readers, well, there is content available to only logged in users, so if they keepo getting logged out, then I could eventually lose them.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

I downloaded the module for phpadsnew from the module repository, but I dont see much in the way of making it work. Like defining new zones on the site for ads to appear and then inserting code. I'm sure I am just missing something, but thought I would post a question for help on working with it, while I go about reading through the documentation to see what I might be doing wrong.

Also, How can I make new areas in my site available to advertising. I would like to create side blocks that can hold four or five ads each and display them all at one time. Obviously I need to also ensure that they can be tracked, so that those I exchange banners with can see it's a fair exchange...is phpadsnew right for xoops? or is there an even better ad management program within XOOPS that can accomplish these tasks?

Thanks

Keith

Anyone here know how to integrate vbulletin into xoops? Or make it a bb module? I have it and I like it alot, but would want it to be as fully integrated into the framework of my site as possible if i would use it.

Now dont get me wrong, i like the module that comes with xoops, but I have also paid for vbulletin and would like to utilize my investment if possible.

Thanks,
Keith

Another dumb noob question, but hey, Im learning, so once I know, i can help others too. :)

Heres my question:
I downloaded the spotlight news module, but cant make it work. i have made sure its available in my modules section, I assigned a story ID to be a feature, but still, no show up.

Anyone know what Im doing wrong?

Also, once I get it up and running, Id like to look into the possibility of having more than one aspect of it on my main page, for example, having 2 spotlight news items instead of the one it already works with.

What would be an effective way of going about it, if it is possible? Can I just rename the module and upload it again, giving me another spotlight news module, or would it create a conflict?

Thanks,

keith

Well, Im trying to see if I can alter the look of my main page to allow me to create a look more in line with www.slushfactory.com or www.ugo.com or www.ign.com. I am comitted to working with XOOPS now, after having looked at a ton of different CMS' packages. I have determined that XOOPS is by far the closest to my needs. i am also in the midst of learning php programming and thought i would apply what I am learning on my site. Right now, i am using a theme developed by a XOOPS member and am using the default template. I want to change the template and the theme to match what i want my site to be.

As far as what that is, well, it's a comic book/movie online magazine. I know what i want to do is possible, but up until now, I wasnt too sure how to articulate what I need, but as I learn, I understand what i am trying to accomplish.

I want to take the different categories that I have on my site and list them separately on my front page. i want a featured news spot, an interview and review section, which I believe I can achieve by using the articles module. But I need to change the layout of the frontpage to include all of that and still list headlines under each category.

Like I said above, those websites have the idea of what Im looking to do. Now, its all about the learning and to see if XOOPS can help me accomplish it in its current form.

any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Keith
