Hi,

Using XOOPS 2.0.10 and some problems with the news module.

1. If automatic approval is not set, there is no method to then approve the news item/story.

2. The date published is "1969/12/31 19:00:01", no matter what I try to do to change it under admin.

3. The news topics dropdown/select box does not appear centered as the one does at https://xoops.org/modules/news/
(We have the news items to dispay in a block left/center, maybe it shoud be right/center ?? ).

Can't say I'm impressed with this news module, are there better ones around ?

Peter

you might have used the old version of the news module...

you won't find a better module than news 1.3...

News is nice, and so is AMS.

I have AMS running on my site if you'd like to see it in action.

Had to throw that in there.

Hi,

Thanks for the information about the verion number of the news module. I did _assume_ the latest version would be 'bundled' with XOOPS 2.0.10

The file xoops_version.php in the news module for 2.0.10 has

// $Id: xoops_version.php,v 1.17 2004/12/26 19:12:00 Onokazu Exp $

$modversion['name'] = _MI_NEWS_NAME;
$modversion['version'] = 1.1;
$modversion['description'] = _MI_NEWS_DESC;
$modversion['credits'] = "The XOOPS Project";
$modversion['help'] = "news.html";
$modversion['license'] = "GPL see LICENSE";
$modversion['official'] = 1;
$modversion['image'] = "images/news_slogo.png";
$modversion['dirname'] = "news";

so I guess 1.17 is bundled with XOOPS 2.0.10

I will download and install version 1.3 as you have suggested, thanks. No doubt I should be aware of this issue with other modules as well, .... check if there are any later releases.

Thanks a lot,

Peter

From the next major XOOPS release, no modules will be packaged as standard. I think this is one of the reasons - so people can be sure they download the latest versions.

LOL
1.17 is the FILE's version, not the module's version
Go in the modules manager, here you can see the modules versions.

I'd much prefer to look at code, to try and get a better understanding of XOOPS; no doubt this line

$modversion['version'] = 1.1;

means it is version 1.1

Thanks,

Peter

Okay, but including the modules, as has been done in the past, does give users that 'secure' feeling that because the module is included with a (full/core) release of XOOPS, then the modules included will work with that release.

How do the XOOPS team propose to inform people _where_ to download the latest module ? I just spent quite a while searching this site for news module 1.3, only to finally realise it was here

I have also found that the latest modules are not always up on this site, and then realised that it was always best to go to the module authors website, to ensure the latest version, and also to ask in forums on those sites.

The location of modules seems to have dispersed somewhat, since the inception of XOOPS.

Hi,

News module 1.3, absolutely brilliant, fixed those minor bugs and given us SO much more functionality.

Very impressed, great job XOOPS developers.
