Small hack of cool module spotlight is downloadable and running here.
Added features are:
- Handles HTML and smiley depending on setting of each news article.
- Shows/hides 'new' or 'popular' icon in 'Other news' list
- Random spotlight selection as page reloaded
- Auto selection within certain category
- Japanese language files are included.
Note that language files enclosed other than English and Japanese do not cover all.
