The Blue Move - updating Xoops Classic Modules

In our quest to get module development started again, we have decided to update the classic modules to run on version 2.3 and PHP 5 and over the next few weeks we will be adapting many older modules. WE have called this Phase "The Blue Move". (After the colour of the new 2.3.x module icons).

We hope that other module developers will follow suit and maybe we could actually bring new developers into the Xoops Module development Team and foster a Xoops Module. If you are interested in doing this please contact us.

Discuss this module here

This is the first module to be given the 'Move to blue' treatment. This module has been 99.5% re-factored to use Xoops 2.3 and PHP 5 and the Xoops Objects.

The only new feature functionality we have added is the ability to use the Xoops Editors, and with this we have changed the original database table. So, please do not overwrite an existing version and expect it to work afterwards.

Discuss this module here

This module has been updated to work with Xoops 2.3 and PHP 5.

All depreciated and erroneous code has been removed and this module should now work well on any Xoops Version.

Both these modules should be considered beta versions. We have only released them in advance to get some testing done. The next phase will introduce better looking templates and more languages.

Testing

We ask if you would kindly test these modules for us and give us as much feedback, bugs and relevant information required with the kick of development with these and other modules in the near future.

Temp Measures

While we are in the process of updating many parts of the Xoops and Xoops development site, we will be housing these modules On the Xoosla main site. This is only a temporary measure and we thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

Other Development

For the future development and care of module development now and in the future, we will also be moving all classic XOOPS modules to the Sourceforge SVN. We hope that this will entice developers to help with the active development of these modules and maybe some new ones.

What we hope to achieve is a better level in all areas of Xoops Module development, this includes templates, languages, documentation and of course the code. We hope that with releasing these modules, other developers can get a better understand of the Xoops Core and how to use many of the features available now and in the future,

Many thanks,

XMDT

WF-Channel 2.05rc Released

I am please to announce the latest release of WF-Channel to the Xoops Community. This version is considered beta and should be used only for testing purposes and not to be used on a production website. This release is to help find any bugs or issues that may arise on different servers and server configurations.

This version of WF-Channel has some important changes, many new features and security enhancements.

Some of the new features include:
User Side
1. SEO friendly
2. Bookmarks (Two types either AddThis or internal book marks), cached for faster browsing
3. Tags (Xoops Tags)
4. Related pages
5. Faster PDF Creation and cached for faster browsing
6. RSS feeds
7. Xoops Notifications
8. Displaying of comments counts, user and publish date, copyright notice and a new page display.
9. New Icons from Xoops
10. Changed the way that the logo image works and added the ability to add a caption below the main page image.
11. Improved CSS validation and should validate correctly (Ignoring the Xoops Errors)
12. Fixed many issues with the links and refer pages.
13. Added html tidy to all pages, print and PDF creation (if enabled by the server).
14. Added a new class to deal with input filters.

Admin Side:
1. Refactored a lot of the WF-Resource class and methods, either for speed increase, security issues and/or feature upgrades.
2. Added the ability to search pages via the admin side by date/text
3. Added XoopsSecurity to page/refer/link submission.
4. Added Form tabs, now forms are broken down into manageable segments by tabs.
5. Changed the way that textarea boxes are displayed within Forms. These will no longer be squashed into the right hand side of the form, but now span two columns. Making it easier to work with.
6. Added Mass Html Import, this is quite basic, but should do the job. Will need some more work after user feed back.
7. Updated the Admin menu, adding and removing new/old items. This is now 'templated'.

Plus many many more changes that I just do not remember.

This version of WF-Channel requires WF-Resource 1.04

I am also pleased to announce the release of The Xoosla Website. Although the website requires some more work, it should serve its purpose for the time being.

XOOPS Theme Gallery is going Live

Resized Image

Thanks to a great teamwork between Burning and Aph3x, we are now releasing our new XOOPS Theme Gallery:

https://xoops.org/modules/extgallery/

which is based on the excellent ExtGallery by Zoullou!

The new XOOPS Theme Gallery will replace our current Theme Library, which will close very soon.

We very much appreciate all the help and dedication from Burning and Aph3x!!!

You guys ROCK

To make life easier for XOOPS users, we'll follow the Wordpress model for submissions, i.e. all themes submitted to the XOOPS Theme Gallery have to be GPL compatible. This will ensure that individual copyrights are protected and credits are given where they are due, but our users won't have to think if they can or cannot use/modify freely a particular theme on their Website. This is the same as with XOOPS Modules: all modules are released under GPL, therefore you can modify each module without checking what license it has, and if the particular license allows for modifications or not.

Side note: we like very much the increased teamwork between XOOPS developers. Burning and Aph3x, Voltan and Mojtabajml, Trabis and Mowaffak, Herve and Marco, Rune and Anders, just to name few, are the best examples of effective and creative teamwork. It is important that we work more as teams, and collaborate on projects, tasks, modules or themes, and we are very happy to see that it is happening more and more lately! So if you see something interesting that you would like to contribute to, please contact each other and work together on it. That's what Agile Development is all about!

Smarty Plugin - Blocks anywhere v1.1

"Blocks anywhere" is a smarty plugin that provides an easy way to place a block in a theme or template.

Just upload this smarty plugin to class/smarty/xoops_plugins folder and you will be able to add a block using the following method:
<{block id=1}>

Replace '1' by the id of the block you want to display.

You can find id of block in blocks administration(or groups), just hover the mouse over block 'EDIT' link and you will see something like this:

.../modules/system/admin.php?fct=blocksadmin&op=edit&bid=3

This plugin respects XOOPS permissions. It will only display the block for users that are allowed to see it(as set in groups permissions).

This plugin also takes in consideration cached blocks.

Version 1.1 brings you some new cool options such as:

display = 'title' -> shows just title
display = 'none' -> renders the block but does not display it
options = 'enter|block|options' -> overwrites block default options
groups = 'enter|allowed|groups' -> overwrites block default group view permissions
cache = 3600 -> overwrite cache time(in seconds)

Code examples:
<{block id=1 display="title"}>   displays just the block title
<{block id=1}>                   displays just the block content
<{block id=7 display="none"}>    does not display nothing but executes the blockthis can go for online block or to trigger some cron block
<{block id=600 groups="0|1" cache=20}>  display block just for this 2 groups and sets a cache of 20 seconds
<{block id=600 options="100|100|s_poweredby.gif|0"}> displays block with diferent options

Usage example:
Place your 'multimenu' block in your theme.
Invisible online block that updates online users table.
Add an image gallery block inside article category page.
Add users online block into yogurt profile page
Etc...

No demo available, just try it!

Download it at Xoops User Utilities
