Hi all

I?m running my local XOOPS through easyPHP.
Everything works fine.

When I try to access the localhost through IE 6 i typehttp://localhost/

but in my address bar the url changes tohttp://213.159.117.233/search.cgi?acc=1010&q=ocalhos and the browser freezes .

I tryed to typehttp://127.0.0.1

and sometimes I can access the easyphp interface and access XOOPS but the navigation , due to the "localhost" thing tends to became unstable, with the links pointing to "localhost/modules/....etc."

It seems that the IE6 is with this strange behaviour.

With the Netscape 7.1 everything is OK.

Any ideas????

not sure on that problem, but if u tryin to use XOOPS on your own pc at home which is set as a webserver accesible to other people on the net then i'd recommend trying this out >http://www.no-ip.com

Thanks for sharing that m0nty! I have a test XOOPS running on my own local pc and I may want to go public with it in the future.

No I don?t want to make my installation accesible.
I?m only doing some tests and customization.

Any Idea with this IE6 strange behaviour?

I use IE6 with my home server and XOOPS and have no problems. So it must be something besides your browser causing the problem for you.

Have you added your localhost to MSIE's list of 'do not use proxy for the following url's'?
Make sure the auto search when domain does not exist feature in MSIE is turned off (not sure where that is exactly, but it's there)
Other then that, tryhttp://ministerver.sourceforge.net which is a very good php/mysql/apache server that requires no install...

Definately worth looking at for home use CBlue. I use DynDNS.org for FTP, terminal services and other things where I need to allow others to connect to my computer remotely. Services like this are great for dynamic IP changes if you run a webhost from your computer or use applications like PC Anywhere and the like.

I used the tutorial herehttp://www.webmasterstop.com/tutorials/apache-php-mysql-installation.shtml to install my home server and it worked perfectly.

Whenever I tried to install a server before using some program or just by reading the apache, php, MySQL home sites, I couldn't get it to work. It was only by doing exactly what that tutorial above said to do that I was able to finally get my home server installed and working perfectly.

Xoops installed very easily on my home server but when I tried to also install phpnuke, phpnuke was not working right.

Xoops is the easiest and best CMS to install in mho!

Thanks Stewdio! One day I will run my own server over the internet but I need to buy me another computer first. I want to have the server separate from my regular pc.

But at least I know how to do it now and will be able to do it again when needed.

I installed Xampp on a win2000 computer. Xampp is a packkage containing Apache webserver, PHP, Pearl, MySQL and some other things. The download of the packkage was the hardest (25 Mb) Install is fully automatic and within minutes I had my local XOOPS installed.
I have no problems with IE6 andhttp://localhost and no probs with MyIE, but I know that you can run into trouble if you have a dynamic CORRECTION : ip , so thnx for the links on this page.
