Hey all,

I am trying to split the main menu, with al the modules in two blocks. like so!

----------
- Menu1 -
----------
-module 1-
-module 2-
-module 3-
----------

----------
- Menu2 -
----------
-module 4-
-module 5-
-module 6-
----------

Is there any one who can help me figure out how to do this?
Thanks a Lot

I'm pretty sure this is not possible through the admin interface. You could write a custom theme what included menus with "hard coded" links that display anyway you want, but any future menu changes would need to be made in the theme files, i.e. adding a new module would not add it to your custom menus.

I'm sorry if that's unclear. Basically, anything's possible since you have the source, but this is fairly hard.

Perhaps if you explain more why and how you want them split, someone can suggest an alternative plan for you.

Dennis

I just found this topic, and it looks like it might help you with your menu: HTML Links - How to?

Simple solution?

Remove the main menu by hand - and use multi menu instead

Why do i want 2 blocks? ok lets try this, i'm using XOOPS for a school and like to set it up so that the content can be found in a logical order. so al the comunication like chat, forum and dmz would be in 1 block and a second block for home, news, userslists, contact, etc.

i found that using the mainmenu and putting al the blocks in a logical order not ideal for the kind of information we want to provide, further more if you look at how the brain works, (like blocks), blocks of information in a logical order divided. groups of information that have a relation with each other.

users who are going to use this site are no computer genuisses so i whant to try to make everthing as acessable and logical as possible. still they need to thing about what kind of information they whant and where it would be logical to find.

thanks so far for the effort you've been putting in to this.

The answer is to use MultiMenu...

unless you want to write new menus, like I do.

My solution, albeit probably not the best one, was to do away with the main menu altogether and make two new ones using custom blocks. I just wrapped them from html into the block, used my theme's CSS for consistency, and it worked out fine. Now, when I want to add a new menu item, I just edit my html file, put the item where I want it, and copy it to my custom block for that menu area.

I have four blocks now, just using one of the old ones as a template when I make a new one. Like I said, maybe not the most elegant way, but very effective for me.

Hello..

I need the same thing (to split the main menu) so i am wondering, has any better solution for this arised from the last post above (3rd month 2004), maybe a hack or a module?

I tried it with multimenu and it's all easy and straightforward except if it wasn't lacking the submenus. When i do it with multimenu i loose submenus which are also important as they are used for submitting news, articles, blogs etc..

Thank you very much
Daniel
