Basically, it can't be ported to XOOPS, as XOOPS modules all have the GPL licence, and this is proprietary software.

One could create a block that interfaces with a Ventrilo server to display such information as the number of people currently in a particular chat room and who they are. Perhaps even a link that when clicked would open up a Ventrilo client.

Back in the not so recent past, I was thinking of creating such a block. However, I've altered my course and no longer have any plans to do so.

I'm very interested in a Ventrilo solution too. There was a great amount of discussion and some nice solutions about this for php-Nuke. Hopefully the following is useful for someone that has the programming skills to port from other CMS's.

---> Ventrilo Thread at NukeCops

A php-Nuke site that has a Ventrilo block implemented is here:

---> Site with Ventrilo Block

The module/block that I think they are using is here:

---> http://cheynet.mine.nu/downloads/block-Ventrilo.zip

((Edit since the last link seems to have gotten messed up somehow...))

Downloaded and will look at it tomorrow, perhaps.

Re: Ventrilo module

I've been training a programmer at work in PHP and have used XOOPS as his training ground. I would like to make this a project for him to work on, since it would be beneficial to Evenground.org, one of our other sites as well. We have already looked at the php code provided with ventrillo and it looks fairly simple to integrate into XOOPS.

Ah now THAT is a productive way to train someone.

It would be nice to have a suite of VoIP options -- Ventrilo, GameVoice, TeamSpeak, etc -- some day as people tend to get quasi-religious about their VoIP choices. This would be a great start though towards such a module.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your looking into this!

I haven't looked at the Ventrilo php code, but the block seems quite straightforward. Some 3-4 classes and a few function calls seems to be all it takes (and an admin interface to manage servers and IPs)
