multiple banners by category, how?

I want to be able to have multiple banners which will generate different banners in different blocks. I know how to put banners in a block

echo xoops_getbanner();

If one cannot do what I'm asking is there a way to have random URL's popup in a block?

As far as I can see, if you have multiple banners, a random one will be displayed.

Making a block with the xoops_getbanner() should generate another random one (but alas, it may very well be the same banner as has been picked before)

I would like two banner sets, one that fits in the standard header part, and another set that would fit into a side block, both sets being random. any idea how i'd go about this?

You could use the phpadsnew module, which is a pro-standard open source banner module, you can also use it as standalone.

It generates html code for the banners you set up. So you can use generated code in the XOOPS banners facility, and also create a custom block and use generated html code in the block, bypassing the XOOPS banner. Categories can also be set up in phpadsnew
