I want to give users the option to expand/collapse (ie show/hide)either, or both, the left and right sidebar columns. Has anyone managed to implement this functionality for a karate_redux type theme?

I saw that http://www.bbpixel.com implemented this feature using the "blue_ipb" theme. In the thread https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13842&forum=7#forumpost55761 tjnemez (http://www.mindhealth.ca) mentioned he modified the "blue_ipb" theme to use this feature.

I tried using the code from the "blue_ipb" theme in my heavily modified variant of karate_redux theme, but unfortunately it keeps giving an error "Line: 35 Char: 2 Error: Object required". As far as I can ascertain this error relates to the line:
document.body.style.visibility = "visible";

Any help or advice would be appreciated as my skills are limited to html and css, not javascript or php.

Thanks,

Gamut

hey gamut,
that is in the java script, you should not change anything in java script. the blue_ipb theme has the java script for block controls and nav bar, i think that should remain the way it is, other than the menu items and images.

I took this idea a step further with http://www.gaining-mass.com , when you click the hide bars it remains that way until you open it. Meaning you can keep the bar closed for your entire vist. If I get a chance, I'll make a post on how that was done.

Thanks for responding.

I had not made any changes to the javascript or image files so it must be something to do with the way the blue_ipb theme is set up. I noticed that blue_ipb theme tables are much more heavily nested than the karate_redux theme.

Draven,

It would be greatly appreciated if you could post how you managed to implement the javascript for toggling the sidebar visibility. I am sure I am not the only one out there who would find this functionality very useful.

Cheers,

Gamut

Hi Draven,

This is just a friendly bump on this thread.
I know you are a busy person, but your Toggle Sidebars solution is eagerly desired.

Gary:

As an intermediate step, you could try my MP00 theme. It includes this functionality, though in a limited way, meaning the show/hide action is only valid in the present screen. I'm also waiting for Draven's more complete solution, but the theme I mention might whet temporarily your appetite --because it includes more goodies, most of them having to do with HTML and CSS rather than PHP.

Read here: https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1098

Cheers.

Horacio,

Thanks for the suggestions and link. I will check it out and see what suits my developing theme.

Cheers,

Gamut
