An update to changing the captcha in xoops

PROBLEM:
I had a problem in changing the captcha type on my portal. I followed the instructions given my mamba in post #7 https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=352419#forumpost352419

But they were ignored by the portal, whatever option I choose.

CAUSE:
It turns out that there is also a config.php in XOOPS_ROOT/Frameworks/captcha

Both of these get loaded, but being that the Frameworks one gets loaded later, and that it has the default option of "image".

SOLUTION:
So you can either change it in this file, or just remove the offending line, and then the changes in XOOPS_ROOT/classes/captcha/config.php will be applied.

POSIBLY RELEVANT:
I don't know how many people are affected by this, our portal was originaly installed with the 2.0.15 version, and has since been regularly upgraded to 2.5.5, so it could be a fault of some update and legacy.

i put httpacess password to register.php file

Just install xortify 4.07 as well it work as a spam sentry as well now!! Have been testing it on extraterrestrialembassy.com that was getting over 400 signups every 10 minutes from some malicious government bot uploading all their alien abduction victums, now I only get none drone unique signup.. Normally with signup at least in 30 signups only 1 will be an authentic one if your lucky.

It is designed to stop all sorts of spam! I am not sure why Mamba isn't suggesting this; I have only been developing this sentry and addon to protector for nearly 2 years now and it is quiet effective!!

Honestly now, why should I recommend anybody to use this module? So they will get screen like this in every previously installed and correctly working module? Here is a screenshot from the Profile module, which before installing Xortify, showed zero errors, but now it's creating a screen like this:

I'll be happy to recommend your modules, but please release at least once a module that runs with zero errors, and not because you suppress them, but because you've tested the module well enough to ensure that there are no errors.

Or release the module as Alpha, so people can test it report the bugs to you. But with all the errors above, does this module look like a "final" module?

I really wish that you would become an expert in PHPUnit testing, and Selenium testing, and make your modules a showcase of how to develop modules with zero errors/bugs.

Atleast test the stuff...
Simon your quality is very questionable and few want to run your modules because they are not without issues. No good to write nice modules when they don't work...

I've reviewed and configured the two files below:

/class/captcha/config.php (left alone with text as default)

/class/captcha/config.recaptcha.php (added my public and private keys in the approrpriate spaces)

I then reset my cache and logged out to test, but still get the following error from register.php:

To use reCAPTCHA you must get an API key from https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create

Is there some additional reconfiguring for recaptcha since its all code based instead of integrated within the websites administrators console?

Please advise.....

Google code has been depreciated seeming they no long allow the creation of new downloads, i have moved back to Sourceforge for my hosting of Open source, xortify has a private project he rest of the modules are found on the Chronolabs project on Sourceforge!


To Download Xortify 4.11 use the following links:

Also keep an eye on EOOPS Project the federated social network myself and Michael Dagn are working on, it works a bit like Friendica and the Yogurt module but is a decentralized federated network where it spans multiple website to interlink users that signup to it; as elastic data passed in XML Objectivity.. Means you can syndicate forums, private messages, and all those facebook features of the web. We are looking for more assistance with EOOPS. It is a module for XOOPS 2.6. It also has a discovery service and a few other things, you need to be a mid range develop that can document the processes your developing in PDF and the Wiki on sourceforge. IT will interface with things like Friendica, Twitter, Facebook, peer.io, status.net and many other federated and syndicated social networks with connectors that elastically lock into the module.
