I am sure that I read somewhere that the news module can be posted to by mail.

I cannot find any reference to that in the module, how is it done?

It is not the News 1.63 module. The use of mail is limited to sending for the notification and a 'tell a friend' function. Receiving a mail and publishing the contents is not in the list of features.

May be you talking about newsletter inside news admin area or smartmail module which can send recent news block by email.

Apart from xpress, are there any other modules that you can post articles/news to by email?

You can post by mail in PopnupBlog (Each user can post in his blog).

You can post tickets in xHelp by mail, but that is not article
..

I saw this feature in Wordpress (the original version, not the XOOPS port) and found it useful.
It will be added, one day.
