I'm curious, as I was reading news, comments and forums, when will the XOOPS 3.0 be released? (is it anytime soon?)
I'm developing a website for which I will have to modify (combine) couple modules and the idea of waking up one January morning to the fact that XOOPS 3 has been released and a month(s) worth of playing with a previous release of modules and core is lost would drive me nuts.

Since, I'm not going to release the site until early/late February, I'm kindly asking for anyone with relevant knowledge to let me know the earliest possible date by which XOOPS 3 might be released.

P.S. I do understand that various factors may extend the time needed to develop XOOPS 3 therefore the only thing I'm asking for is the info whether or not is there a chance for XOOPS 3 to be released in January.

base on avaliable information:

1. XOOPS 2.3.1 just been release still fine tuning and bug hunting.

2. Fixing current modules to run on XOOPS 2.3.1

forecasting for XOOPS 3.0: at least a year away.

i think next year in this time, my site is working on XOOPS 3.0

No, there are still a lot of incompatibilities and issues to fix in 2.3.1 with major modules. Some module developers try to resolve this in the module, making the module incompatible with XOOPS 2.0.x and 2.2.x. However, this is not the way.
Expect a version 2.3.2 in a few weeks.

I don't know how soon we'll have 2.3.2, but it will be definitely before 3.0.

Reg. 3.0, my current guess that it should be in the first half of 2009. That gives us 6 months window, so we should be able to make it

Right now the focus will be on "cleaning up the house":

- Sailjapan is working on reorganizing the FAQ,

- our "XOOPS International" Team just created the SVN code repository for all translation files, and is working on translations.

- the new Theme Library is pretty much ready - Aphex is working on few cosmetic changes, and Burning on updates

- Burning and few others are working on redoing the module repository

- once the Translations process is done and working, I'll be shifting gears to Documentation. We'll need to update all of it, and creating some new ones.

- we just started "Spread XOOPS" initiative, and Vamptrix is already working on a web and videos

- We'll be forming soon a QA/Testing team

As you can see, some things have already happened, some are "work in progress", some still need to be initiated.

Before we come with the 3.0 release, we'll be working very hard on creating a very efficient infrastructure for XOOPS:

- streamlining our work processes and making them more efficient, so our volunteers (developers, designers, documentation writers, translators) can accomplish more in less time

- making our Website more user friendly and more transparent, so our users can find information faster

Again, there is a LOT of work, and we need your help!!!! Please volunteer today and help us out!

There is so much you can do:

- help Sailjapan with FAQ reorganization
- help with Wiki reorganization
- translate Core or modules files into another language
- provide support here on the forums
- document a module, or update existing documentation

By working together and each of us contributing a little, we'll make XOOPS the best it can be!!!
