hi there,
trying to generate a new (the first) forum failed:

"...You did not fill out all the parts of the form.
Did you assign at least one moderator? Please go back and correct the form."

i've filled out all fields for certain ! a moderator was chosen.

btw:
generating categories before ends in blank fields, perhaps this is the cause.

xoops version 2 (download 18.2.03)
mysql Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.52

best regards
carsten

Did you create a category first?
if yes, ok... if not start creating a category before creating a forum...
if you've created a category try the following:
- fill out all the fields
- for the forum's moderator you need to have it selected so the name should be highlighted (you can select multiple moderators by holding down the shift key)
- select the category and all other details in the dropdown boxes
this should work

this is the problem with the php directive register_globals
In order for the forum admin functions to work in RC2, register_globals must be on.

if you are hosted, most times you can set this using .htaccess

php_value register_globals 1

Hi,

Noob question coming up. I've searched the forums before posting this, but cannot make sense of the answers...

I get the forum message about having to choose a moderator and even though I have a 2nd user setup and configured as moderator, it still won't let me create a forum. Yes, I do have categories too

Anyway, I've seen one fix where you add some code to the admin_forums.php. When I edited that file, the line of code was already inserted just above line 33.

So, I then came across a few references to "turning on register_globals", including the above message about .htaccess.

Here's my question:
I understand that .htaccess is simply a text file containing various settings for the Apache server. I can create the file with the line (php_value register_globals 1), but where exactly do I upload this to? Don't say "your server" please

Which directory does this go in? The XOOPS top level or somewhere else? Will this instantly cure the problem?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I've been completely baffled by the answers so far.

Absolutely love XOOPS by the way. Will love it even more when I can get the forum working properly

Regards,
Jim

I created a .htaccess file with "php_value register_globals 1" in the root folder of my site and in the admin folder of the newbb module and neither worked.

I've noticed that this is a pretty wide spread problem, but there don't seem to be any definitive solutions anywhere on the forums. Was this ever resolved???

Whoa.. these are old posts. Back from the RC days even. The XOOPS forum module works fine with register globals turned off, that was fixed a long time ago. Make sure you're running the latest versions.
