Whats the latest consensus on XOOPS shopping cart modules?

I want to create a shopping cart for an existing website that is not a XOOPS CMS.
Is it worth using XOOPS, or is there better out there specifically for shopping carts?

I read Kshop lacked payment and shipping plugins and no means of placing checkout under an SSL. I guess these things are quite important.

Any help and advice appreciated.

XOOPS a fantastic CMS, but a commercial product it sadly falls short off.

If you've got money to invest and are selling books then consider Hervé's, InstantZero's bookshop module.

http://www.instant-zero.com/

If not then personally I would stay clear of XOOPS for Commercial purposes like shopping modules.

Consider something like ZenCart:

http://zencart.com/

There are a fair few commercial open source projects out their, your best bet is to find them, compare them and then decide what's best for you.

A good place to start comparing is:

Hope this is of some help.
Kind Regards.

Really depends on what your website is going to sell and if you wish to have other funtionnalies thant pure ecomerce (forum, articles, news, calendar, polls,...)

If you wish a pure ecommerce solution, then XOOPS is probably not the good choice for you, try something like zen cart, oscommerce,... as these are made for that purpose.

If you want other features than just ecommerce then, XOOPS can be a good choice.

I would advice you to contact instant zero to test their myshop module which is now able to sell everything, not just books.

I've tested it and choosed it for one of my client (will sell wine) because it suits perfectly its needs.

Hope this helps.

It will sell jewellery.

Is OsCommerce not available on Xoops?https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3933

Is Zen Cart also not available on Xoops?

If Hervé's module does now more dynamic as to what products are sold, then I'd seriously consider that option.

Yes there is or was a ZenCart module for XOOPS, I seem to recall seeing it on the dev.xoops website which is currently down.

I'm not sure of it's current development path or if it is still developed at all.

One thing I found with both ZenCart and OSC modules for XOOPS, is they were very buggy, and could cause more issues than anything else.

If you contact Hervé I'm sure he would be more than happy to demo the shop module to you, it is a cool module.

[EDIT]

Just noticed the news article you point to is for a newer release of XOSC, I've not tested the latest one from Fera Tech, Inc.

The only way for you to know if this module is for you is to test it yourself and see how it functions.
Kind Regards.

Yes integrations exist, but those are not module made from scratch for xoops.
If oscommerce is updated for security issues, you will have to wait the module to be updated.
os commerce or zen cart are not coded to be XOOPS modules, these are only integrations.

The ones I've tested were quite buggy and wouldn't be a good choice to sell something, although, I didn't test le lastest releases.

osCommerce has come a long way.

Its so easy to set up a standalone osC store.

As you can see, it is completely possible to get osC to look like your site, and having your store separate from XOOPS (i.e. a different database) is not a bad idea.

That looks nice and especially for OSCommerce. But, the only thing that I really have a hard time getting by is 2 user accounts databases.

Not being a smart ass, Why do you say having separate databases is better? Security?

I really like the idea of having a true XOOPS commerce module like what Herve has put together. There are so many possibilities for integration into other modules and just having one CMS makes it so much easier.

Yeah, security is the main reason I prefer separate databases.

I am sure Herve's modules kicks ass.
