hello, I recently setted up a dedicated server, it's a: ntel \ 2.4 Ghz \ P4 Celeron, Generic \ 512 MB \ DDR 266...

I have the following modules (ordered by most important): myAlbum, tellafriend, mylinks, xoopsfaq, statistics, sitemap, rss, isearch, xoopspoll, donations

I have arround 3500 visits per day with 35000 page views, and it works fine with that, but some days this grows o 5000 visists and with 50-70 online users at the same time, the server crashes

I followed a guide to set up MySQL and tweak some settings to improve the speed, but still, it crashes when it reaches those levels

any help? I can't pay at the moment for a better server

thanks in advance

Hi,

Assuming you've root access, we need more details:
1. OS and distro;
2. Apache/IIS/Other WebServer version;
3. PHP version;
4. MySql version;
5. Show us the result of the 'top' command;
6. Show us the my.cof file (exclude your password);
7. Execute this command from the shell: 'mysqlreport --all -tab /statistics.txt' and paste here infos inside statistics.txt;
8. Show us a phpinfo page;
9. Show us these infos about apache conf:
KeepAlive
MaxKeepAliveRequests
KeepAliveTimeout
MinSpareServers
MaxSpareServers
StartServers
MaxClients
Maxrequestsperchild

You need a high end processor for that for your requirements. Core 2 Duo Quad Core processor will be a great server to host your website IMO.

i had the same problem with my main site in my dedicate server.(almost same hardware but 1 Gig Ram)
using "fastest cache" FCH from Gijoe help me to reduce resources about 30%
its a rather easy to install.

edit:
also my server admin offer me another suggestion to install mod_evasive.c module in apache to avoid DOS and DDOS attack. you can try it too.

also, you may consider utilizing this to get a general knowledge of exactly what areas of your sql.cfg need to be tweaked

any idea on why this is happening?

i have no idea about.
i just can suggest the routine advice: turn on php debug for any blank pages.
