Here's a tip that may be helpful to some....

Favicons are the tiny icons that are displayed in the URL address bar, in your browser window. In Xoops, for example, the favicon is an image of a orange/grey X... just look up top of this page, you will see what I mean!

You can change the favicon on your XOOPS site, or any site for that matter, by using the following tool:

http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

To quickly summarize this page...all you have to do is create an image that is 16x16 pixels, and then upload it using the form on that page. The form coverts your image to an favicon image format. Then all you have to do is upload this new favicon file to the root directory of your XOOPS site. There is already a favicon file there, an X, just like the one seen at the top of this page. Overwrite this file, refresh your screen, and you should see your own favicon appear.

Note: may appear or not appear, depending on the browser you are using. In most cases it works though.

Why change your favicon? It's just another way to personalize your site, perhaps make it a bit more professional.

Another good site that creates animated Favicons basically from any image, with a bit of trial and error with different pics they can look quite good.

Okay........ done that and uploaded the favicon.ico file.

It doesn't display for my site in IE7, although other sites' do.

Is there some code that needs to be in theme.html?

I have this code:

<link href="<{$xoops_url}>/favicon.ico" rel="SHORTCUT ICON" />

Do I need anything else?

I have cleared the browser cache and the "templates_c" folder.

You might have to actually close your browser, and not just refresh it, for the favicon to appear.

I'm not sure of the status of favicons in IE7... there may be some issues there...apparently, not all browsers will display favicons as easily as others...

try adding the site to your favourites list in IE.

most browsers these days will display the favicon regardless, but there's a reason it's called a favicon (favourite icon) ie. it's an icon indicating that the site is 1 of your favourites.
