Dear Forum moderator,

I am using XOOPS version 2.0.10 for the website. For upgrading the same to 2.0.15, the following procedure has been tried, as suggested :

The required files have been downloaded from the following location :

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/xoops/xoops-2.0.15.zip?download

1. Copy the content of the htdocs/ folder over your existing installation after having deleted "mainfile.php" and the "install" folder.
2. Delete the following folders and files (they belong to your old version and are not needed anymore):
class/smarty/core
class/smarty/plugins/resource.db.php
3. Empty the templates_c folder (except index.html)
4. Upload the upgrade folder to your site
5. Ensure the server can write to mainfile.php
6. Login using an administrator account
7. Access /upgrade/ using your browser

However, while pointing the browser to the upgrade folder, it shows the error message that the page can not be found.

In addition to the above mentioned problem, I am geeting an warning message that mainfile.php is writable by the server. Even if, I change the permissions, automatically it becomes writable by the server.

Please help me.

Did you put the upgrade folder at the same level as the cache, templates_c and modules folders?

Don't know why you can't change permissions but it must be writable while you upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete you then need to change it back.

Perhaps you will find some of this useful - especially the visual tutorials site:

New users should always checkout the following:
1. Documentation - linked on the left. Specifically the administration manual
2. The FAQ section - linked on the left - specifically the sections on gloassry, beginners first steps, modules, blocks and themes. There are links to visual tutorials here.
3. The search function on the top right.
Please check also the read B4U post link below if you have problems.

I have gone through all the referred articles, however, I couldn"t get the solution.

Yes. Upgrade folder is put at the same level as the cache, template_c and modules folder.

Also, I would like to inform you that even after overwritting the files in the folders such as cache, class , Modules etc., the site is still working well with the older version (XOOPS 2.0.10).

Please help.

This sounds as if you've copied the /htdocs folder to the
folder where your existing installation is installed instead of copying the CONTENTS of the /htdocs folder to your "root" XOOPS folder. In other words, there should not be a /htdocs folder at the same level as /cache, /modules, etc...

The XOOPS check to see if mainfile.php is writeable checks to see if it's been CHMOD'ed to 444. Many installations have PHP running as phpsuexec and rights are being forced to a minimum setting of 644 (often can't set it to 444 using an ftp client, etc.) - therefore this causes XOOPS to complain that it's still writable.
