Why use messy hacks when we are satisfied with the features already implemented

Those Messy Hacks are the base features of 2.2.x
which results in a messy release = Not Recommended !

Even there was enough people alerting about it.

uhmm, I didn't want the last toy, I wanted the newest toy , completely unaware that a few months down the road it would be listed as not recommended, kinda like a toy recall. I chose not to give the toy back and take my chances. Have no regrets. Most module developers code new modules for 2.2 as well as 2.0.

Actually, what's been a major problem is running some XOOPS modules on IIS; some don't work at all, some require tweaking. That's actually been the biggest headache

As a developer for the XOOPS Project, I appreciate you for sharing your concerns. Actually those points you pointed out are being worked on extensively.

Concerning XOOPS 2.2*, no XOOPSer will be abondoned. For instance, although I strongly recommend 2.0* to Chinese users, XOOPS 2.2 is still run with the Chinese support site.

I have to admit that i admire such perseverance.

And "regrets" aren't a good thing...

What i meant is that known hacks would have been a lot more useful with a stable 2.0.13.2+

Because, finally, it's not a question of months but years now recoding and fixing.
As well as a waste of time and ressources for devs and users.

But, we all learn from it!

Best Regards,

.

Well said. That's probably the case with most of us who are currently using 2.2.x. It was originally touted as the new stable next generation XOOPS and we fell for it. When it turned out that it was a failure because of too many problems we were already hooked pretty deep to it, and here we are.

That's good to hear.

Thanks

I use 2.2.3, and I am happy with it. I do not see that it is any less stable than any of the others, and indeed, prefer it to 2.0.14. I look forward to the next release though, just as I do every module release. I have looked at Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, and PHPNuke, and XOOPS has the best selection of modules for my uses, not to mention seems to be the most versatile.
