Google Labs released google trends. Google Trends analyzes a portion of Google web searches to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you enter relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time.

its interesting to search XOOPS trends via google trends.

So this tells us that xoops.org is easy to remember and people don't have to goto google and type 'xoops' (apart from people in Taiwan and Japan who can never remember the address

), where as Mambo has:

http://www.mamboxchange.com

etc etc etc
So people always have to go searching to find the site they need.

That is one conclusion we could draw from this example, it does give an indication of the popularity of the keywords though. What would be more interesting to know is the popularity of the site.

Earlier I noticed that Alexa´s site traffic graphs were mentioned on XOOPS. I am not sure how accurate the numbers are but comparison between competitors will most likely give a good indication of the differences in website popularity.

Wow Google trends is cool! We can find all sorts of interesting information.
