After nearly 2.5 years my Lost-Doggies site has been well and truly screwed by me updating my discussion forum from what was NewBB2 to CBB 3.01. (no fault of the devs - it's all my fault but not sure where I've gone wrong).

Basically, newBB was running fine but I got concerned at the gap between it and the development of CBB so thought I best upgrade. I did all that was asked - upload the Frameworks folder, upload the files, update the module etc.

But all my display got messed up and it showed huge rectangular areas - it's hard to explain - but it looked like a template issue combined with the theme, and yes, xoops_header is included in the theme.

So I messed about trying to generate template files but nothing worked and I got so fed up I tried to put it back to how it was, so I copied my old NewBB files back and tried to restore the database. But the restore isn't working (10Mb SQL backup created using phpMyAdming and trying to restore using phpMyAdmin). it just times out.

So in a fit of despair I deleted my template clone (and of course losing all my tweaks to my templates many of which foolishly I did not document) and now, not only is my forum screwed, but many other areas of the sites are too!So I not happy at all!

Can anyone take a look at my Discussion Forum and tell me what they think has gone wrong. Access it here : http://www.lost-doggies.com/modules/newbb The whole template thing I've never really grasped and still haven't despite Xooping for a few years now! Shameful I know, but I just don't get it. Can anyone advise me on how to fix this rather unpleasant experience without losing my forum entirely?

Xoops 2.0.13.2, commercially hosted

Cheers

Ted

Ted,

Did you add the Frameworks folder to the XOOPS root? Also, you might have to go into CBB's preferences section and tell it what template to use. There is a dropdown menu with that option.

Hi Gestroud, and thanks for your response.

Yes

I had spotted that feature but it is blank. There is no entry to select. I recalled thinking that seemed odd at the time. Does that shed any light on the issue?

Thanks

Ted

Hi Ted

I think there is coverage of templates in the operations guide which you can download from here. For future reference...backup your custom templates as part of your normal backup procedure!!!

If you have a backup of your database I wouldn't panic just yet. I suggest trying to restore it again late at night or whenever the load is light at your ISP. If that doesn't work, try uploading one table of your database at a time (just cut the backup file into separate text files). If that doesn't work because your ISP (like mine) has a horribly slow or overloaded database server, consider dumping your ISP for a better one - better than losing your forums!

Firslty, FIXED IT! Don't know how - I just did it all again, deleted the content of templates_c and cache folder, deleted all the templates of CBB and then re-generated them as a batch, and it's worked! Thank god! Now I just need to find out what other tweaks I made to the templates and re-apply them. That may be a truggle but I'll get there eventually I'm sure.

Thanks Madfish for the link to CrushDepth - I will read it.

Cheers - over and out.

Ted
