What this error message means is that you need to "Change Modify" the permissions of those folders and files (aka CHMOD).

This can be done through your site's File Manager, or through an FTP program.

I *think* your uploads, cache and templates_c folders need to be set to 777 or 775 permissions, mainfile.php needs to be set at 444.

But I am installing on localhost on my computer. I would understand if I was on server but I am not for the time being.
I will still investigates.
Would that prevent me from connection to the database thought?

Being on "local" I did not use the CHMOD features to change the properties of the folders mentionned in the earlier message but I modified them and disabled the "read only" feature on them. Still can not connect.

of course it won't.. setting file permissions has nothing to do with connecting to the database :S

either your username, host, database name or password are incorrect, or the user isn't assigned to that db, or your MySQL isn't configured correctly.

can you connect to it via other means?

easyphp website maybe able to help you more tho.

but i prefer xampp to easyphp as it's a lot easier to install and setup.. and never had any problems with it.

*edit* posted at same time..

unzip it, copy it to the modules folder and then goto XOOPS modules admin and you should see it..

Re: Cant connect to Database Problems.

Grab a coffee, tea, or beer - whatever is your pleasure and have a read through some of the help docs connected to the thread 'find help docs here' below. In particular i would recomend XOOPS for dummies and John's tutorials along with the complete download of XOOPS docs which is on one of the later posts. Sit back, relax and do this bit of reading and you should find your XOOPS experience a little more hassle free.
Oh and take a long cheerful cruise through the FAQ's. Cheers
