I'm designing an xhtml strict site layout with CSS at the moment. Unfortunately, my site looks poor in internet explorer but looks fine in firefox and opera (predictably).

I have heard of various CSS hacks that can be used that only IE can see and firefox etc cannot.

I don't understand how to use these though. Please could someone show me some of the code required to make my layout line up in IE6 AS WELL as firefox and opera. I don't care about IE5

The page can be found at:

Help me please - I'm beginning to lose faith in all of this CSS-p stuff

Wow - I managed not to swear at IE throughout this whole post.

For that I surely deserve a good reply

(bloomin 'eck this is my 100th post - Wow!!)

Beta testing for IE7 has started, so who knows what we have in store.

IE7... God help us

Why don't micro$oft just rebrand Firefox, I can guarantee it would make a better browser.

I don't know why Microsoft even bother. They claim that IE7 will be all about security but that's obviously a lie because all software the Microsoft creates is about as secure as a piece of paper.

One thing that really pisses me off about IE7 is that it can't be installed alongside IE6. This is incredibly annoying for web developers who wish to test their code in different browsers.

IE7 also doesn't work with many of the CSS hacks used for making IE5+6 display pages correctly, while it only fixes a few of the problems that create the need to use the hacks in the first place.

In a few months, when IE7 is released, it looks like we're going to have to redesign our webpages for yet another bloody browser.

So the main players in the browser market are gonna be:
Firefox
Safari
Opera 8
IE 5+6
IE7

As if semantic web design wasn't already difficult enough!
