I have the same issue.

Have got a number of pdf files that I would like to incorporate into the site rather than having them as a straight download or open up in a separate window.

Vaguely remember seeing an article on this subject some time ago butmy searches have not turned it up yet.

Sorry only 1 beer left have drunk the other two

I might not be very clever but I can lift heavy weights!

I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you meant, but we find making 'clickable' thumbnails of the document cover a good way to highlight/draw attention to PDFs. Sometimes we use them in blocks, sometimes in news stories or static pages. There's a few examples on our work site at the moment (which is about to get an overhaul :)

I cant speak for what jharis is wanting but I have a site athttp://www.suffolksocialcare.org

This lists all the policies used by social care for Suffolk county council in the UK.

If you click on one of the sections you get a list of policies in that subject and clicking on the item will download the policy.
I would like to have the pdf appear as part of the site instead with the option of a full download for printing etc.

Hope that clarifies my request

I am hopefull that smartsection, news, or article will some handle pdfs like a standard document rather than an attachment. Pdf's have become a huge part of everything. Having a nice way to integrate pdfs into a site would be cool.

Javalin, Madfish those examples look pretty good.

Sorry for my delay in answering.....
I practicly did the same as Madfish did. Except......
I've cloned the mydownloads module but have put in (apart from some personal needed group- and redirect codes) the code 'open within frame' which is included as a setting option within the standard mylinks module.
All my pdf files now open up within an extra window (target blank) but captured within a frame. The header of this frame I can adjust the way I want. (put in logo, enter some text etc.)
I don't have an example at this moment since this part is only available for registered users on my public website. This week I will upload this adjusted cloned module to a test site so you can see my example. ( i have to adjust some hardcode so guestusers can enter this module, which isn't possible at this moment )

But to get an impression, just adjust the setting within the mylinks module (open up within frame) and you now what I mean.

Grtz., Shine
