The easiest way to accomplish what you want is to use a menu module such as Multimenu

Take a look at this Multimenu Flash Tutorial to get an idea of what it can do. All menus on my site are made with multimenu.

HTH.

ok I've just watched the video a couple of times..how do you make the menu though...ok for instance, on this site..i see community, user menu, search, make a donation that sort of menu.........so how do I make the menue and than add the content to the menu...maybe that's what I mean...and like under main menu there are things under that i don't want....i'm sorry i'm new to XOOPS and trying to understand how everything works..I still can't for the life of me figure out how to get something on the front page in the center..news things..man that's hard..or i'm dense..LOL thanks

**edit*** I found how to make a main menu name..yippie

No problem. We all learn. I am still learning.

The menus are blocks. In multimenu, I believe you can make up to 8 menus(blocks). I use them to categorize my menu links.

Once you install the module and click on add a link it is much easier to follow the tutorial. Then you just enable the menu blocks for your page in "System Admin - Blocks". Let me know if you need more help. I can enable my live chat on my site so we can go through the motions.

Each of the titles you mentioned are Block titles and your theme dictates the look of those.

Out of interest what version of XOOPS are you using?

I was going to quickly go through using xoops, but I mainly use XOOPS pre 2.2.x so might be a bit different to yours, guessing that if your new to the XOOPS project, your probably using something like XOOPS 2.2 (let me know either way, if you need help figuring out how to move blocks around)

I can't really go thorugh making a menu in multimenu until I know what version of XOOPS your using, as I think its kind of different.

Basically you would select multimenu1 and then add links to it, the easiest way to do this is to first copy the link from your current main menu and then paste it into the admin section for multimenu, then rename multimenu1 to the name of the menu - example: Development.

Either way, once you have setup your new menu, you remove items from the main menu by going to the screen for module administration, you will see a list of modules, the numbers that are by the respective modules represent the order in which they appear in your mani menu, the higher the number, the lower down the item will appear in the main menu.
Any modules that you do not want to appear in the main menu, just set its number to 0.

Save your changes and the main menu will have its new look.

As I said before, post your XOOPS version and I will probably be able to give you more details on making a menu list with multimenu.

Dave

EDIT: Use the 0 to hide items from your main menu, but I guess it might be easier for you to deal with jdseymour for the multimenu part as the live chat thing will probably make it easier. Hope you get it sorted soon.
