I'll put some of the (immature) ideas that I have about a News Team here, for your consideration and discussion.
I see the work of the News Desk Team as part of the XOOPS.org site maitenance activities, and as such, it should fit in with the other activities in that 'category' (others are FAQ maitenance, repository and library maitenance, forum moderation).
The news is our official channel which the XOOPS.org project uses to inform the community. But as we discussed in the excellent
PR thread, XOOPS has been focussing it's communications too much to the incrowd. Therefore I would like to see the news desk evolve (in small steps) towards a more professional news service for everything XOOPS.
How do I see this, you ask? (how kind, thank you
) These are just some of the ideas that my mind has spawned, in no particular order:
- reporters who write news articles about YAXS sites, development news, CMS news, web developments, design news etc.;
- in collaboration with the docs team, themes design team, dev teams write longer
A List Apart style articles;
- Categorised newsletter by e-mail where people can subscribe to;
- news feeds management (RSS etc.);
- Expertise on Document Management and Meta information use for XOOPS developments.
There probably are many more ideas, but these give a nice view of the level of comitment and professionalism I'd like to see. XOOPS.org is a portal, and the news section should be one of it's main attractions, that keeps attracting and inviting people back to the website.
