How can I install two (or more) XOOPS sites onto one hosting account (share or not share the database respectively)?

If any, does the login cookies conflicted with each other?

as long as you have different databases THEORETICALLY you can...

but I am not sure...

Yes you can - just place two copies of the XOOPS source code in separate directories and have different database prefixes (you can run as many sites you want off one database as long as the database prefix is different)

They should not interfere with cookies etc.

Thanks for your sincere help!

Well, how can I have a test for installing brand new modules, upgrade modules or upgrade XOOPS in a mature and high-traffic site, with the least expenditure of the space in the hosting account?

Is method like using the same databse prefix to simulate the origianl XOOPS site practical? Or any other suggestions?

One more question, if all tests are performed for my site, how is my site affected during and after the installing/upgrading duration?

if your worreid abotu space, just run your test server locally. If you want to "mimic" the overhead of a site with tons of content already, than one idea would be to export that database to your testing site.

Great idea! Thanks!

If all tests are performed and passed, in the real upgrade, how is my site affected during and after the installing/upgrading duration? You know there is a high traffic!

You may want to use XSAS...
Which is an all-in-one download and installer for a local copy of Xoops, PHP, Apache, and MySQL.

Installing a new site does not take a lot of resources, so unless your up-and-running site is hogging resources like a sailor on leave, you should not experience problems. And if it IS hogging such resources, chances are that you should not run another website off the same box, anyway

Thanks for you all!

Can I have several XOOPS sites, but only the member accounts are shared. i.e. members can login to my several XOOPS sites with only one login.
