OK, call me dense, but I'm having problems comprehending the minimal amount of information I've been able to find on the XOOPS site regarding upgrading from XOOPS 2.0.7.3.

After poring over documentation pages and forums, all I've found is http://dev.xoops.org/modules/phpwiki/index.php/Xoops%20Detailed%20Upgrade%20Procedure. And it didn't help a lot. I installed my existing XOOPS version using Fantastico, and have only been using it for a month.

Is there a simplified upgrade procedure documented somewhere? As I don't have a development server, I can't really follow this document as is, and I don't really feel comfortable tinkering with my production copy, though I have backed it up.

I could just stay with the version I have, but I imagine that I'll just get further behind over time until my version is completely unsupported.

I can usually figure things out, but sometimes I need a few mental prods. If anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it.

lol, you're right, the DevWiki is... inadequate.

The way upgrading works is simple, when you know what you're doing (as with everything). The upgrade patch you can download (see the top-right 'Latest versions' block for a download link) contains all the files that were changed since the 2.0.7.3 release. What you need to do is make a backup of your site (just in case, you never know), and then overwrite the files on the server with the files from the upgrade patch. Then, go to the system admin, and reload the system module.

Also, the news detailing the latest release has the upgrade instructions (andthe download itself as well).

I have done this all myself yesterday and have a word doc to support those doing it. Includes screenshots. It will be shared with the community when i figure the best way to do it. In the mean time PM me with your email address and I will send it to you.

The way you describe the upgrade does sound very simple. Perhaps that's my problem - I so expected it to be more complicated, that it would not have occurred to me that it could be that easy. On the other hand, I've read of a few others who seem to have had difficulty. At any rate, I was suprised to find that the upgrade procedure wasn't documented in the 'docs' folder of the patch archive.

I read the news piece about the release (https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1965), but all I saw regarding details was some info for those who had already upgraded to 2.0.9.1, which I had not.

Anyway, I have PMd Jen for her doc, and I will follow the advice of both of you. Thanks for your help.

Incidentally, I tried out a number of CMS packages before settling on Xoops. I am most impressed not only with the package itself, but with the community of users and developers surrounding it. I don't often see humans working together so effectively and, dare I say, cheerfully.

Well, I am now running XOOPS v.2.0.9.2, with no apparent issues. I must say, that was the easiest upgrade I've ever done. It was only the wiki doc that I looked at the caused my problem - it made it sound more complicated than it really is.
