My Question (to Globalhosting):
What backup options do I have available to me for my shared hosting account via the CP or elsewhere?

Their Response:
You can download a copy of your site whenever you like. You can also tar up a copy via the File Manager by checking the checkbox for the folder you want to tar and clicking on the ARCHIVE button at the top of the File Manager.

What is wrong with the backup options available in Cpanel.

I have MySQL backup, alias backup, and home directory backup.

Restore is done through the same interface.

My host provider does a full backup of the server each night at around midnight.

Are these options not available to you?

Nope, I have no automated backup options available to me. I only have available what they suggest. I've been with them for 3 years now.

P.S.
I tried their file manager backup suggestion they gave me a minute ago and it crapped out on me giving me errors. Grrrr.

Well it depends on what your host said they offered when you signed up ... for instance, those two options are available to our custoemrs to backup copies of thier sites for themselves. We also back up all our customers sites automatically ourselves as a safegaurd. I won't spam my site here, but I have a post in this forum if you need something with routine backups.

No offense J but that didnt answer the question at all it was more of a sales pitch.

I am sorry to answer a question with a question but do you have SSH (shell access) availible to you?

If not we can still do this.

I will PM you with a flash tutorial feel free to watch it if you want.

Thanks for the flash movie Adam. Unfortunaltely my webadmin does not look anything like yours. I wish it did. Here is a link of what my control panel looks like.

No problem, I'll make do with my manual FTP & SQL DB backups until technical support gets back to me.

Appreciate your help tho.

If you have not purchased a package that includes automated backup, I cannot see, how you can expect to get it.

It's like not signing a service contract on your car and then complain that if it breaks down, you will have to pay to get it fixed.

Automated backups is a selling point that costs extra - just like additional space and traffic limits - if you want it, I'm sure your hosting company would love to sell you a bigger package with more services in it (just a guess, though, I don't know your hosting company)
