Hi, installed XOOPS fine. Now some questions ...

html does not seem to be working in my new custom boxes. Images aren't displaying; also, links are appearing as html instead of links.

AMS:

What exactly does it do? I've read about how great it is, but haven't seen or read about specific things it does. I've downloaded it and it also doesn't have any installation instructions.

Thanks,

Ric

Re: Custom Box Questions

1. Make sure you have chosen HTML as your Block's Content Type:

XOOPS FAQ: How do I make a custom block?

2. AMS (Article Management System) is a modified version of the news module with many added features. Its purpose and primary features are listed in its release annoucement.

Thanks. Think I figured out the html problem, but still nothing on the AMS.

I went to the site you listed and there was nothing there on how to install it.

Also, currently searching forum for instructions on how to install a new theme.

Thanks again.

Hi council,

Welcome to Xoops.

See this faq page on installing modules:

https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=90

Xoops is modular and almost everything is added to XOOPS by way of modules.HTH.

Thanks, I'm on my way ... one question, though.

Why can't anyone else see my new custom blocks? I can see them when I'm logged in as admin, but no one else can see them even though I checked visible on the blocks page.

Re: Custom Box Questions

You have to set up group settings.

Click on the administration menu, put your cursor over the system admin icon. In the dropdown list choose groups. Choose edit a group of your choice and put check marks in the blocks that you want shown.

Happy Xoopsin'

Thanks, problem fixed.

Here's another question: Is there any way to have columns in the center block like a regular newspaper?

Yes it is possible to have columns in the centre block. Go to your center block edit and just create a table with columns with suitable padding/spacing/colors and insert your content.

It is also possible to have more than one center block so you can have different layouts. For instance you can have the top center block in two columns and then have another block with four columns or with mixed columns and rows.

For practise you can try out doing a welcome home page with an interesting layout.
