Xoops sites slower than html sites?

I'm learning how to migrate to XOOPS from my old html web sites and all is very interesting but I've a terrible doubt.

The very same data show up within XOOPS in much longer time than before.

Is html site faster than php pages or is a problem with xoops?

Any tips about making faster the loading of a XOOPS site?

I had the same problem some time ago, but it was an easy fix. I'll dig into that and post *my* remedy. Stay tuned.

Hmmmm.... if I remember correctly its the field Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory? in the General Settings in the Preferences. Should be turned off (NO).

Thanks a lot for the hint.
I cecked my sites using XOOPS but the risult is the same: they are slow compared with the html pages.
I wonder if this is a common problem or is my fault: something else I should know?

I hope this problem is not an issue for most XOOPS sites.

My site loads pretty quickly. It might be due to the number of pics you have or the version of php that you are running on your server. This site is made with XOOPS obviously at it loads pretty fast for me.

Speedwise, you cannot beat HTML pages. Ever.

It's not such a big surprise, though... PHP files have to be parsed, database has to be called, HTML code constructed before sending. A HTML file can just be sent as it is.

So yes, XOOPS is slower than HTML sites, no contest.

Whooops1 I should have been more clear on this. My ''fix'' did speed up things, but as Mithrandir says, HTML pages can't be beaten speedwise.

It is not a problem with XOOPS exactly, but a trade-off of a dynamically generated website. This trade-off is IMO far outstripped by the gains in productivity and interactivity, YMMV though.

Yes, this can effect performance.

If that's not enough, you can also enable the cache for areas of your site that don't change as often.

Having said all that, most XOOPS sites do not appear to the user to be slower than html. There may be a problem with the connection to your host's MySQL server... or other hosting issues.

As others pointed out, the Xoops.org site loads fast. My site loads fast. The majority of XOOPS sites I've seen load fast (unless they have a site info block turned on).

Hope will be usefull for newbes like me..

Yesterday evening I tried with a 56k modem connection.

Xoops is quite fast!

I understand my problem was mainly a pixel high number.
While an html page shows bytes number and is easy to keep it under control, with XOOPS is easy to add more stuff around the content page and this is slowing it as a risult.
First of all is for me a good news that XOOPS itself is not slow.
