I don't know if this question has been asked already, and I'm not going to waste my time looking.

New Year's Day isn't even over in my neck of the woods and we're already experiencing a bit of controversy over what may or may not be perceived as unilateral decisions and lack of communication between the dev community and the XOOPS community at large - not a big deal, but it does have some of us shaking our heads and wondering what's going on.

A couple of posts in the comments section concerning XOOPS' new theme, logo and the way they were acquired more or less stated that it's too time consuming or unwieldy to bring things like this to the community

Gotta beg to differ, guys, but I kinda think that doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense. Makes no sense at all really, considering the polling and survey modules available - neither of which have ever been used to my recollection.

I'm not suggesting that XOOPS allows everyone the general community to start creating their own polls or surveys; that would be a nightmare. But, I believe that the moderators should be allowed to post relevant polls or surveys whenever something that involves the entire community arises. Set a deadline on the voting, limit it to registered members, blah blah blah. It would probably save a lot of headaches in the end.

I second that.

I see no problems in recruiting outside help also, but the community should be informed. Maybe some of us would have also tried out for the contest.

Cheers.

If the idea is adopted, I suggest that it be a one-day voting event. Give people plenty of notification that a poll is coming up, tell them when it is, what it's for, the options, make another pre-announcement, then hold the vote. If they have enough notification and don't vote, they shouldn't have anything to complain about - unless of course they don't like ANY of the options presented.

I've seen this suggestion before, perhpas by you or others. I always thought it was odd that polls is a system module and yet it is missing on the primary XOOPS site. . even as a demo of the functionality, not to mention the benefits of actually using it.

It is such a no-brainer for a "community" driven project, that one must wonder why this suggestion consistently goes unimplemented. I could see concern for giving an impression of majority rules on certain issues, but as a simple feedback tool, it's pretty obvious.

Poll suggestion :

Should the XOOPS Community have the right to vote and decide of goals?
Should the XOOPS Community review Teams Leaders?
Should the XOOPS Community vote for a project management team?
Should the XOOPS Teams (dev, design, QA, etc) be treated in equal manner?
Should the XOOPS Community keep an eye in Foundation monetary transactions?
I like people more than machines or money. But that's me!
Lets do something good and great: Lets do open source!

Should the XOOPS Community have the right of veto (by qualified majority)?

or

Should the XOOPS Community elect Contol Committee, which will have rights to block dangerous activity of XOOOS Foundation (Foundation Board) and XOOPS Management Team (current XOOPS Foundation is hunta, not "Vox Populi")?

Mortuk,

I think LB has a good point in this one and well described. Please stick to the forum rules as well. It makes the discussions on this site much more fruitfull.

Geez, ya think?
I know I'd have done it for sure.
(Seems it would be something kept within a community that understands the concept, not outsouced to someone who has no idea nad it had to be explained to them!)
Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Good suggestion gestroud.

However, just to pose a differing view...

Implementing polls/surveys increases the risk of changes being implemented or not implemented based on politics rather than fact.

In anything, there is always a trade-off.
