Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Ghost 2 - Program Bug

Link to how_use_Ghost.php gets corrupted when preferences is updated via the Admin page for Ghost.

The link is then changed to your website's url, with a 2nd reference added in the link.

Work Around is to setup everything and leave it, or delete/reinstall Ghost module.

11/01/09 2.15 PM NOTE: Problem more serious than originally viewed, and continues to occur with even the most minimal changes, i.e., changing viewers, etc. Uninstalled Module, awaiting official release.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Thanks for the clarification ... I had asked about the purpose and use of Clone, but it hadn't been answered.

I have also asked about XPress vs Wordpress, but that posting in another area has gone unanswered since October 20th? It seems that there is alot more going for wordpress than Xpress. I''m also intending to setup other PHP/MySQL apps ... Any comments or opinions?

As an afterthought, My app has an index.php, should I just copy and edit (e.g., remove header and footer info, etc) so that there is no conflict if other php files call for return to index.php. I would appreciate your thoughts, before I make the move of the contents of /Recipes (My Directory).

Besides removing the header and footer references in my index.php, is there anything else that comes to mind when cloning my index.php that I need to be concerned about.

Guess I'm still nervous, but I think I"m almost done and am ready to "just do it". ... <g>

UPDATE: Tried suggestion, not a good idea!
Too much work to display my database application, and it requires editing of all the header, footer, html, etc.

Better Soluton ... Just EDIT the existing how_"use_Ghost.php" for the cosmetic changes (name, instructions, etc), and setup the links you want.

My links now include pop-up windows for::

- Our Custom Dabase (Recipes)
- Wordpress BLOG (regular version)
- PHPBBS Bulletin Board System (regular version)

you can see the results at Papa's Recipes ... but you gotta join to see the apps displayed <g>

Love "Ghost Module 2", and the options now available.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Thanks ...

I didn't realize it was really that simple. So, I copy all the contents of my /Recipes directory to /Module/Ghost ... and then I just copy my index.php into the sample php and rename it, i.e., Recipe.php?

Isn't this going to bloat the /Ghost directory, especially as I add other apps, i.e., Wordpress, etc.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

I had already setup my record, pointing to the site location, but when the item appears ... only the name is shown. There's no way to click or trigger the item. It NOW seems that the page has to be in the SAME directory? If so, why does the add page use a URL for the item.

The template is only showing an echo type of statment, it doesn't really provide an example of using a module or using an app (i.e., Wordpress, etc) ....

My PHP/MySQL app (Recipes) is located in a directory. Are you saying I need to copy my app to the Ghost module and then name (add) a page via the Ghost App?

Can you help clarify.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Installed without any problem, thanks.

Still 4 questions ...

1. How Do I Include my /Recipes PHP/MYSQL Application.

I can see the sample, how do I add, change or delete items. Too bad the "How Do We Use Ghost" isn't completed.

I setup my record, pointing to the site location, but when the item appears ... only the name is shown. There's no way to click or trigger the item.

2. Name Shown is "Ghost Module", can I change the name and where/how do I do it.

3. RSS Feed: Is this for future use or can I use real feed for something related?

4. Clone: Please explain the purpose and use ... basic explanation.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Absolutely ... Great Idea!

Updated Comments: Created Ghost 2 and Installed it. At first, nothing showed. Then I copied my PHP/MySQL app into the main directory and everything worked like Ghost 1 (the original).

Presently, I'm only trying to add my Recipes App (PHP/MySQL) and have it show in the main window ... for Registered Users. I'm also interested to know how to add more apps, if anyone can help with this part too.
Screens are better, but nothing seems to help. I'm including screen images and asking if anyone can help explain what information is added.

Index Screen
Resized Image

Manage Pages Screen
Resized Image

Clone Module Screen
Resized Image

Preferences Screen
Resized Image

Edit A Block Screen
Resized Image

If the screens are too small to view, right-click on the image and download it for viewing. The downloaded images are larger than they look.

Any Help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Thanks again,

I tried editing the index.html, but nothing showed. I expected the display to be the same as my old html (which includes a link for my Recipes database). I know I'm missing something?

Do I need to update the PHP file first? If so, I see that the existing PHP (index.php) has some guidelines.

Do I need to update the PHP file first, and if so, what do I put in my index.htm file (if anything).

I appreciate your assistance.

I tried the link for svn, but it's not working? I'm anxious to try ghost 2. Can u help>

Updated Comment: I copied my /Recipes contents to the Ghost directory and everything works well.

However, I don't see a place to limit access to Registered Users, Display in the Main Window, etc.
If these options are not available, then I'll go with the basic suggestion (modify the menu) and modify my /Recipes so that only Registered Users of my app can view/post, etc.

For General Information, there are some other options.

1. Modify the blocks that start up, and add the link for the database ... which would still require me changes to the PHP/MySQL app. This would NOT include the option to display for REGISTERED USERS only.
2. Use the CONTENTS module, with changes to PHP/MySQL option.

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

Modified Main Menu, ... to include the "If User". This will do the job if nothing else. Really Nice!

I also downloaded and installed the Ghost Module, but I don't know what I'm doing. Is don't know what goes where ...

Is there any documentation or samples for Ghost. I tried searching, didn't find anything.

Incidentally, I did see some reference to Ghost 2. However, I couldn't find anything on Ghost 2 beyond the reference to it (Ghost 2). Any comments on Ghost 2

I also saw reference to a Phantom Module" during my searching ... The reference was in the French XOOPS support site. Any ideas about Phantom?

Thanks Again

Re: Adding Existing PHP/MySQL App to Main Menu?

I edited my Main Menu to include my app, and it works well. However, there are 2 prolems or issues that I see ...

1. Replaces XOOPS, that is the app replaces my XOOPS appReplaces XOOPS, that is the app replaces my XOOPS app. Is there a way to bring up the app in a seperate window ... e.g., Target=_blank or even better to bring up the app inside the same window like the other regular items on the main menu.

2. Back Arrow is the only way to go back to my XOOPS Back Arrow is the only way to go back to my XOOPS, is there a way to have the XOOPS return automatically. I assume the only way to control this is to use the "Target=_Blank" approach.

Any thoughts or assistance appreciated.
