Count news posts in the user post tally?

Why don't news posts count towards a user's posts? :(

Is there any easy way to hack this, so that news articles can count towards the tally and ultimately towards the user's rank?

Yes you are correct. It would still be nice if there was a way to do it from the main News page itself though.

Is there a way that I can leave "auto-approval of news stories" turned OFF, but have the system automatically approve any story posted by an Admin, via the "Submit News" link on the news page? Or is it necessary to have an admin approve admin-submitted news?

I'd love it if anyone knows of a work-around that can allow ONLY admins to post news and not users, but have the system not require the admin approval of the story before publish.

Thanks!
Darcy

Hey all, I saw this forum and wanted to put in a good word for SRL Hosting. They have the most amazing prices, incredible quality of service, and the best tech support in the business. I've been there for over a year, and many others have been there even longer.

I currently host my website with them, and they offer XOOPS through CPanel's Fantastico script manager. Just a couple clicks and the latest version of the XOOPS portal is installed!

They're worth checking out. Here's a link to their forums where existing customers talk about their experience etc., and here is their main site!

Eek, yeah I read about the storm on the news! No we didn't get anything, although it's been raining this morning. I'm sure we're in for it soon enough though! I'd actually take snow over rain I think!

Hmm, I checked PHPINFO and it reports than magic_quotes_gpc is ON. Which is correct, is it not? Incidentally, here is a link to my server's php configuration info.

Quotes/Apostrophes incorrectly displayed in RSS Feed

Can anyone give me a hint as to why both the native XOOPS RSS backend, as well as the RSS feed generated by RSSFit, are displaying quotes and apostrophes (and maybe other special characters) as the html character codes like " & q u o t ;" or "& # 0 3 9" instead of the character itself?

(i broke the code up with spaces in this post, so that I could actually post the code I get; I'm not sure how to escape the code)

For example, here is a clipet from my feed:
Murphy & # 0 3 9 ; \ s Laws of Combat

But it SHOULD read as:
Murphy's Laws of Combat

I see that the Xoops.org feed does not have this problem. I asked my webhost if it could be a php issue and he said maybe, but had no idea really where to start to look, and suggested I ask in these forums.

Is this a php config issue or something I can change in Xoops?

Thanks in advance!

Great, thanks for the tips! I'll try out 1.3.4. I'm running 1.3.3 at the moment.

Is there a way to choose which gallery(ies) the XoopsGallery's Random Picture block grabs its pictures from?

Even by specifically blocking all privileges to EVERYBODY for a certain gallery, the Random Picture block is still able to show it :P

okay I see that I only needed to include the appropriate linkrel tag in the template.html, and now that works.

Here is my last problem. All quotes and special characters in the titles and clipets of my feeds are referenced by their appropriate code, instead of just showing the character, for example:

it shows: Murphy's Laws of Combat
instead of: Murphy's Laws of Combat

Is there any easy way to fix this? Is it a PHP configuration thing that I need to have my webhost look into?

thanks ackbarr! but is there anyway, either with RSSFit or with the native backend that I can get browers like Firefox to detect the feed and show the system tray icon? For example, it does it for the Xoops.org site, but not for mine. Even with RSSFit activated. RSSFit creates the feeds and even has a page with the links but firefox still isn't catching them.

What does it take to make this work?
