Thanks for the comments! Regarding the theme, I've already paid someone to work on it for me (from 7dana). I'll have to make sure that I will have the rights to it, in which case, I will release it for free.

Thanks again,

Mike

Hi All,

First - I'm just getting started with XOOPS. PHP too, for that matter.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could suggest what module or modules I could (or should) use to re-create my existing website using XOOPS:

www.mrkratom.com

Right now, everything is static, except for my "calculators" page, which uses PHP. I would like to set things up so that I can post more information to the site as time permits. In this regard, it would be sort of like "news articles". I also like the idea of users being able to post "comments" about the various articles.

Bear in mind that I would like to keep as much of the existing look & feel as possible. Mostly because I hate UI design, and since I like what I have now, I don't want to muck with it anymore

Another thing is that I would like to be able to support multiple languages. I'm thinking that, in the admin interface, I should have the ability to submit articles, and at the same time specify the language they are written in. I should then be able translate the same article into multiple other languages. Which version gets presented to the user should be based on their user profile. Anyway, I figure that the ability to "tag" an article with multiple languages ought to be part of the "article management system"; I looked at Wf-Sections, but didn't see anything like this.

At any rate, I'm just looking for some ideas to help me get going in the right direction. 'Specially since documentation seems to be a little short around here

Thanks,

Mike

1) My advice is get a real security program zone alarm and Norton are what the "public" use. Attackers love these regular programs.
2) Stay with XOOPS you would be a fool to go elsewhere if you need help its all here you won’t find a better community on the internet you also make some great friends here.

I hope you stay with us if you need some help buzz me on private you msn and ill help best I can.. Would be a shame to loose you!

Just to clarify, I'm not the original poster that was considering switching to PHPNuke...I was just commenting that I had noticed the same problem, and that switching off ZoneAlarm "fixed" it...

fyi...

The problem is not Xoops, it's your server. I use ZoneAlarm as well. It doesn't like XSAS [Xoops Stand-Alone Server]. Switched to easyPHP 1.7 and haven't had the first problem. easyPHP is also a lot easier to convert to a production server. XSAS would not be a good choice for production IMHO. Incidently, I have ZoneAlarm set for maximum security because I'm paranoid. Never caused one problem with Xoops.

I didn't mean to imply the problem is with XOOPS. I was simply commenting that turning ZoneAlarm off fixed the problem.

Also, by the way, I'm using Apache 1.3.29, PHP 4.3.6, and XOOPS 2.0.7.

In any case - should it *in principle* work OK with ZoneAlarm, or a personal firewall product in general? Is the problem likely configuration, or a bug with Apache 1.3.29, PHP 4.3.6, or ZoneAlarm?

Regards,

Mike

for anyone that doesn't know, mikem is a good theme creator from php-nuke, he'd be a good person to have in the XOOPS community, hint hint

Well, thanks for the compliment, but unfortunately, I think you have the wrong 'mikem'. I haven't even used php-nuke...but, see, I guess I'm smart for starting with XOOPS, right??

Mike

If that solves it, it is a matter of your HTTP referrer being blocked by *something*. You say you don't have a personal firewall, but perhaps something else is blocking the sending of HTTP referrers.

Perfect. I just installed XOOPS today on my WinXP laptop, and encountered this problem. After searching the forums, I read your message, which made a light bulb pop up over my head: ZoneAlarm!

I shutdown ZoneAlarm, and that immediately fixed the problem - everything seems to work fine now.

Maybe this should go into the FAQ or something.

To the original poster - do you (or did you) happen to have ZoneAlarm (or a similar product) installed?

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Mike Mills
