Just so you know, I have installed about 10 modules so far and this was BY FAR the most difficult to get working -- so don't lose faith.......

Well, I just FTP'd just the templates folder over and now it works. I don't understand why it didn't do that when I copied everything.........
Anyway -- thanks for your patience with me on this.......
And, love the LotR reference......
I think I am a closet Rosie myself.

I have the templates on the site as a whole set to the XOOPS default. Was I supposed to write over some templates somewhere with the install of the news? Is there somewhere else to change the template settings?

Did you get this to work? I have it installed - it isn't pretty or perfect, but it works....

OK - I uploaded the new file and did all that you recommended, still no go.......
here's the URL - be kind, this is still in development and has no real content, but you should be able to see the news stuff without logging in (just test articles)
http://www.coa.gatech.edu/xoops/

Right now, I have the News Display Layout set to "By Topic" - as you will see when you click on News in the main menu. If I change this setting to Classic, nothing appears but the Notification Options.

Thanks for your help on this .....

OK - it sounds like you have the wrong block selected. Are you using the 'Recent News' block? YOu can also further edit what will be displayed by clicking on edit on the blocks page.

so, do you have any articles in your database yet? I am using news on my home page also -- but only as a block, like you are saying and it works fine but you HAVE to have some content there for it to display

This may sound silly - but have you entered any test articles in your system? In my experience, the blocks don't show up unless they have something to display.

I turned on PhPDebug and here is the error that appeared...

Notice [PHP]: Use of undefined constant _NW_MORERELEASES - assumed '_NW_MORERELEASES' in file modules/news/index.php line 171

Does that shed any light on the issue?
Thanks for your quick responses by the way......
