Hi, this might be the best forum but since my site is using XOOPS I figure I'd give it a shot here.

I just found some content on my site was pretty much copied verbatim by a competitor. They copied contents from a few of my pages and consolidated them into one page. This page also includes an original diagram from my site (and the only thing they changed on this diagram was my company's name to the word "we").

I'm definitely going to make a complaint to the organization regulating the business this plagiariser and I are both in, but I have two questions:
1) Is this kind of problem preventable? I really don't see how to provent that technically given the content has been served to the browser. Worst case the guy takes a screen shot and retype everything.

2) How do I prove that I have the copyright of the content? First of all, how do I prove that my site had the content before theirs did?

the question I think is how you count one vote per user. for anonymous votes, if you just track the IP, you could treat an entire company of 100 people all using the same Web proxy as
only one vote.

Hi, I created a poll using xoopspoll. When I tried it myself the first time, my vote was recorded. If I tried it again immediately, it said I had already voted for the day. Great.

But a couple days later when I tried it again, I got the same message that I had already voted for the day, which was not true. It was my own laptop so nobody else had used it to vote in the same poll.

I tried it from my desktop, and the same happened. Sometimes
I would be allowed to cast another vote after a couple days, sometimes not.

Has anybody noticed this issue? How does xoopspoll track that I had already voted? I mean, first I voted as a visitor. Then I logged in a user and voted as that user, and got the "already voted" message too. Seems the tracking is based on the server address only, and there is something wrong with the timestamp? Tracking via the server address is inherently wrong becausee all machines from our office go out through the same proxy.

Please advise.

Formulaire module still being developed?

Hello,

It's been a while since I implemented this nice module. I have version 2.29 running on a production site and would like
to upgrade. I can't seem to find any documentations on where to get the latest production version and the procedure to upgrade etc.

Could somebody provide a pointer? I went to xoops-themes too but it's all French.

Thanks for the info. I understand the general philosophy but am interested in specific procedures regarding XOOPS upgrade.

1) how to I backup the db content of xoops?

2) how to restore from the db backup?

3) customizations. I have to say as a CMS xoops's customization capability isn't so good because quite often I have to modify the php code, which makes upgrade a real pain. But that's more of long term problem to solve I think.

4) I also would like to have a test site. Having only a production site right now, would it be possible to "clone" it into another site which I will use as my test site for upgrades?

Upgrade XOOPS best practice?

Hello,

Is there any "official" guide on what the best practice is
to upgrade xoops? I've got it running fine on 2.0.6
initially, with customizations. For the upgrade to a
newer version, I'd like to

1) preserve my customizations
2) have a full backup including db backup in case things
go wrong.
3) understand how to quickly restore to the previous version
if necessary (include db restore)

What is the best way to achieve this? I'm running it on a production site so I really don't want to "experiment" with it.

For the upgrade to 2.0.7 I had to manually go thru the change log, and only applied file changes where necessary. Now I'd like to upgrade to 2.0.9.2. Any suggestions?

MySQL backup for Xoops?

Hello,

I'm concerned about backing up the content of my xoops
DB and retore it if necessary. This would be useful if
the DB crashes, or an XOOPS upgrade screws up my
customization etc.

Any recommendations on what to use for this purpose?
Is there a function that I can call from the admin module
to perform a full backup (generating all the necessary
sql for a full restore)? Or a standalone script will
also be fine.

1) Regading title length, could you please let me know
the fix so that I can apply it now. I've got a production
site and I'd like to fix this issue now.

I've gone ahead and done the following modification:
In blocks/news_top.php, I commented out the following line:

$title = $myts->makeTboxData4Show($myrow["title"]);
if (strlen($title) >= $options[2]) {
// $title = $myts->makeTboxData4Show(xoops_substr($title,0,($options[2]-1)))."...";

That works for me for now, but I'd like to know the correct
fix. What is the array "options"? Where is options[2]
specified?

2) Regarding the Restric View by Topic option, I did
select it, but it's not affecting my Top Stories
news items. Please advise.

Hi,
Could you please explain to me in detail how to do this?
I'm talking about the news title length in the Top Stories
block in News 1.2. I verified that it's displaying 20 to 21
single byte characters (so about 10 Chinese characters).
Where is this specified?

Another issue with news 1.2: although a news item is
in a category not viewable to the anonymous user
group, that news item still displays in the top news block. clicking on it gives a no-permission error which is good, but can we hide those news items that are not readable by a certain user group?

Hi,
I just upgraded to news 1.2. I love the permission based
viewing and approval capability. However in the TOP STORIES
block, each news item now only displays up to 10 Chinese
Characters which is different from version 1.1. I'd like
to display more characters in the index. What do I need
to modify to achieve this?
