Yes, that's easy for you and me; that's the way I do it as well. However, many of the users at our forums don't do it that way, and won't do it that way. If we converted our forums to Xoops, they would go absolutely berserk about this truly bizarre and inconvenient text formatting system.

I did try to look into kiovi, but after a couple of hours time could not find any step by step instructions for adding it to the XOOPS forum module, so I gave up.

It looks as though as much as we like the community features of Xoops, it's just not going to work out for our site at this time. The impression we get by using this site and these forums is that it's more suited to developers and other technical types, because there's not much straightforward, easy to find documentation for the non-technical user. Of course, your experience may be different; that's just the impression we've had after trying to find an alternate to the standard XOOPS text editor and not having any luck at all.

I keep seeing mention of this kiovi editor, but I have searched these forums and xoops.org and can't seem to find where to download it and how to integrate it with xoops. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Who thought up this akward approach and WHY?

Is there any way to change it so that people can highlight some text and then hit the BOLD button rather than typing it into the ADD box?

The simplest way: use XOOPS 2.2

Can someone be more specific and explain how XOOPS 2.2 addresses this issue? I don't get the impression LSUFan wants a WYSIWYG editor. He simply wants what you see in most forums, where you click a formatting button (bold, ital, etc) and it puts the bbcode tag in the text entry field, as opposed to the current XOOPS editor that makes you type into that silly form field and click a button and then click add.

Is this different in XOOPS 2.2? If so, how, exactly?

Newbie Question: Forum Formatting Buttons

We're considering moving our standalone forum website to Xoops. We've got XOOPS installed in a test directory and have been playing with it, and we've discovered something that our users would surely revolt against.

Is there any way to change the way the text formatting buttons in the forums work? We'd prefer to have it so that when you click a button, it puts the tag in the entry text box (like most other forums I've ever seen). Putting text into that little field to format it and then having to click the "add" button, is really awkward. Our community would complain loudly.

Are there any other options?

I got one XOOPS install up and running and like it so much that I decided to convert one of my other sites. But when I install on a subdomain, images in the theme show up as broken. Any suggestions?

My 2nd newbie question of the day:

I would like to edit the way comments are displayed. Specifically, I would like to do these 2 tasks:

1. remove the joined date, location, and post count from under the avatar on the left side.

2. Change the words "poster" and "thread" at the top of every comment, or possibly delete that entire table row, as I dont see its purpose.

Could someone please tell me where to go to make these 2 changes?

Many thanks!

Hope this isn't a silly question but I'm a XOOPS newbie.

I would like to remove the comment viewing controls (flat/nested/threaded | oldest first/newest first) from the comment display. Users can make their choice in the Edit Profile screen if they want. What file(s) do I need to edit to get those controls off the comments page?

Thanks in advance for your help, looking forward to being part of the XOOPS community.
