Thank you for checking. It was a permissions issue.

I just successfully ran the installation programs. The only problem is that the page shows up as blank.

Is this a permissions issue?

Is there a way to restrict posts to news topics by group? I'm setting up a site where I want only certain people to contribute to a specific subject but I want everyone to be able to read and/or comment on the news.

Can you tell I've been spending too much time with my 3 year old? Anyhow, I was doing some clean up work in my XOOPS root directory and inadvertently deleted all of the files, but not the directories.

This isn't necessarily a big deal, believe it or not, because the site isn't yet live. To fix the problem I have created a new database and reinstalled XOOPS in a different directory.

Yes, I'm coming to the question . . .

In the old site, I created an alternative set of templates to which I've made various changes. Can I transfer them to the new XOOPS install? What about the modules templates?

ABCs of PHP App to Module Development?

This has probably been discussed before but anyway. I recently commissioned a PHP for a client and would like to convert it to a XOOPS module. Are there any resources for a non-programmers to convert a PHP app to a XOOPS module?

Yup I did get it sorted out, more or less using the second method you suggested. Actually what I did was set the border to 0px. That seemed to do the job nicely.

I'm not in love with the fieldset, however. There's no control over placement on the horizonatal axis. For example, you can't line up the headings on the left margin.

I guess the thing to do is delete the fieldset attribute. Haven't gotten around to it yet but will.

Thanks for your suggestions!!!

Yes thank you. How does one deal with the sub-menu items that come up with certain modules? Is the work a matter of discovering all the menu items and their relation to one another and then reproducing it with a custom menu?

So what do you do then, turn off the XOOPS menu?

Thank you CBlue, kahumbu, and Brad for being so generous with your time and knowledge. I made the changes to theme.html and they actually worked.

Over the years I've opted for Adobe GoLive to create and manage websites and have assiduously avoided editing in "source" mode and programming.

Thanks to your contributions I'm neck-deep in the source code and loving it. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks

Well I'm not SO old.

For my next trick, I want to move the menu above the content as well. Is that something best handled by creating a new block?

Thank you for taking pity on a poor ignorant designer . The If/else construction is what makes the various possibilities conditional, right. So what you're saying is if x is true do one thing and if x is false do something else?

I recognize some of the variables from poking around in the various template and theme files. But not, for example, $xoops_isuser. Did you make it up for the code snippet or is that one of many XOOPS variables available for such times?

Well thanks again.

Bob
