Sorry but this didn't fix it. My cache folder was already writable by everyone. I'm running on a local network so there are no firewalls involved. And to further clarify, I don't run any firewall software on any of the computers.

Exactly the same thing here. I click submit on the q: "This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed." and then I see "If the page does not automatically reload, please click here" for about a second and then I'm back at square one again Any ideas?

SOLVED: Did all that but still have problems

I editet the index.php in the installer directory directly to intercept the host variable (the installer does not allow an empty host name). In the php-script I replaced the hostname variable with "" and voila the installation worked. I'm a bit concerned about not understanding why but what the heck, I don't understand that the universe have 16 dimensions or that women always act irrationally

Typing EXACTLY as you said produced the same long list with help stuff as before. However when I omit the "-h localhost" and just enter the db-name (xoops) it suddenly works. I'm greeted welcome to mySQL etc. So this way I can connect to the xoops-db. Still though, the XOOPS installer is not able to connect . Is it possible to set up things using command line or do I have to use the installer?

Sorry to be such a nuisance. I'm not really used to be such a beginner Being the one translating the Mac into Swedish in 1984 and part of the founding team of Apple in Sweden I find myself, right now in a situation equally interesting (and equally disturbing) as way back in the early 80s - I don't know anything about this but I'm sure going to make it.

We'll back to the problem. Yes I did the "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root -p password -h `hostname` xxx" and it gave me the whole nine yards of help page tips. Tried it without the "xxx" (replaced with my real pw) at the end and the ended up with an error message: "ERROR 1102: Incorrect dabase name 'edquist.se-local'" wich happens to be the name of my host... not my database.

If you (all of the superb support people out there) think I drive you made... just stop answering. I'll understand you!

Thanks a million for you effort to help out. Really appreciate it. I understand the logic behind the process but it still did not hep me. I am trying to install XOOPS on a Mac OS X computer. I have succeeded a couple of times earlier but now I am completely stuck Having further lookd into it, using some MySQL utilities it seams that my computer do not have access rights to the MySQL databases. For example trying to set the host passwords using
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h `hostname` password xxx yields the following error message
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'edquist-se.local' failed
error: 'Access denied for user: 'root@10.0.1.100' (Using password: NO)'

Any ideas?

Running Postfix on the same machine as Xoops?

I'm already running Postfix (MacOSX) on a machine I plan to use for Xoops. Will there be a problem in doing this? Is XOOPS using it's own SMTP/POP server and if so will it disturb Postfix? Sorry if this is a very basic quistion but after scouting the forums and read the manual I have not been able to figure this out myself.

I would like to be able to run three different sites (doesn't know if this semantically is the correct word ) on the same XOOPS installation. One site will be our external precensce, the other our intranet and the third a project site. Is this feasible with one XOOPS installation running on on one server? They will be saparated by their respective path's like www.yyy.xx/site1, /site2 etc.

If not what do I need to do to accomplish this?

Works like a beauty ... but shouldn't this be configurable from the preferences module? But, thank's a lot for the superb support the two of you have offered!
