mmmm... doesn't sound good! Haven't used the backup thingy but will remember if I do!

Actually I noticed your post as I'm trying to work out how to allow directory listings in more than one category so if you or anyone knows, please do tell... ;)

Just noticed this so thought I'd reply - you sure you've not got them listed as sponsors which will list each one twice?

I've had no similar probs with the module and used it for ages so can't think what else it could be.

Hmm... wonder if it's the max connections set too low - will check.

No persistant connections, and shouldn't do that already

Upon checking a site I've been meaning to put up on YAXS but it's only recently gone public is LinuxVAR.co.uk I was confronted with the following error:

This page cannot be displayed due to an internal error.

If you are the administrator of this site, please visit the XOOPS Troubleshooting Page for assistance.

Error [Xoops]: Unable to connect to database in file /usr/home/customers/stevepurkiss/www.linuxvar.co.uk/www/class/database/databasefactory.php line 34

So I connected to the db and all OK

and mainfile ok

then 2 mins later site ok again

This understandably worries me!

Any ideas?

Hi,

I've been delving into the code as I'm trying to hack XOOPS so that the second page of registration is the XDirectory/Yellow Pages mod signup page instead of the info and a 'finish' button (which lots of my users miss...).

I've searched and searched but not had any luck so while I plod on I thought I might as well post and see if someone knows which direction to point me in!

Thanks,

oddb0d

Freelance web developer/company wanted for design template integration on an ad-hoc basis. Will be continuing work for the right person/company.

Work will be from existing design in photoshop or html format.

Must have excellent cross-browser CSS + HTML knowledge, preferably with PHP and Smarty experience, ideally with experience of building templates for XOOPS, OSCommerce, and XOOPS with myxoopsshop OSCommerce.

Location not important - experience, reliability, and cost is - this is part of a service for small businesses.

Relevant URLs and rates please to steve at open4 dot org.

Thanks

Steve Purkiss

Hello,

I've just used the multi-instance TinyContent "hack" - isn't there something similar for other mods like news and galleries? Failing that you could just use completely different modules and restrict access to the member mods, i.e. gallerymod1 for public, gallerymod2 for members.

As far as changing design goes, XOOPS works on the Smarty templating system so you can change pretty much anything - one HTML and one CSS file does most of it.

I'm slightly confused (no change there then :). I thought this was going to be an article covering the current states of OS CMSs, however it seems to be more of "I need a new site, I have a list of requirements, I could get it done free if I say it's a competition".

I think it's very unfair to ask core developers of any project to change/add features - especially for review purposes - you wouldn't be reviewing the actual product.

Use XOOPS for the magazine by all accounts, and if you don't have time to develop the stuff that you want then as has already been said, do what everyone else has to do and pay for some experts to implement it.

I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick in the first place, I thought I was posting something potentially useful.

I'll send him a note and ask if he'll come along and clarify.

Does sound like something you might ask commercial systems to do, perhaps a better idea would be to have a series of small case studies for different types of sites - community or commercial, small or large, etc. Then the people who implemented the sites would do the work, get some recognition, and give the platform some publicity too.

It could even be a kind of competition on each one to put forward their best three implementations, or three which show the diversity of usage. I find showing blank installs not very effective - always good to show sites in context, gets peoples minds working...

Any other suggestions? (nice ones please :)
