I'm very interested in this also.
I'd even be willing to force the members to post to the forum directly instead of using email (eliminated spamming as well). The biggest change I'd like to see is a checkbox with the notifications setting to send the entire post instead of just a link. Currently, this is available to admins at the global level, it just needs to be available to everyone and at all levels that post notifications are sent.

Don't we all have friends like that.

At least it makes up popular, and sometimes we get nice things in return.

I'd be very interested in your findings as well. I was going to look into the phpWiki module for something like that. I imagine there are permission issues with letting people only edit certain pages, but Wiki's are very nice in that they could create a number of linked pages with no intervention from the webmaster.

I just found this topic, and it looks like it might help you with your menu: HTML Links - How to?

I'm pretty sure this is not possible through the admin interface. You could write a custom theme what included menus with "hard coded" links that display anyway you want, but any future menu changes would need to be made in the theme files, i.e. adding a new module would not add it to your custom menus.

I'm sorry if that's unclear. Basically, anything's possible since you have the source, but this is fairly hard.

Perhaps if you explain more why and how you want them split, someone can suggest an alternative plan for you.

I second the RedHat recommendation. I've run XOOPS on RH 8 and (currently) RH 9. XOOPS installs without any issues on both. I just use the Apache/PHP/MySql that comes with the distribution and upgrade to new RPM's as they are released.

I find it easy and fast, but then I've been compiling Linux kernels for more than 10 years, and find Linux much easier and more intuitive than any Windows version I've tried.

Like the other Linux folks here, I'd be happy to help if you need it.

Are the uploaded dirs in the correct location ?
I always "chown -R apache:apache *" just to be sure (apache being the owner of the http processes on RedHat).
If all else fails, restart the web server and turn on some debugging in the general preferences.

I'm using one Doc Root of the XOOPS code to serve several sites. These sites are completely independent logically (I haen't done any code mods), but share available modules and themes. I use a single database with different prefixes, but it's also quite easy to have seperate databases. I have also shared several tables between the sites by using Linux hard links of the MySQL data files, but that's optional.

The changes I made were to mainfile.php and Apache's httpd.conf. If you want details about either file, PM me with your email address and I'll send you some code.

Permissions to display blocks are not controlled that way. Instead, use the edit link next to the block you want to control and then select the pages you want it to show up on. If "all pages" is iselected, de-select it and just select the ones you want. Be sure to make it visible again also.

Have you tried a search on Freshmeat ?
It's amazing the amount of OSS projects that site has catalogued. It might take a while to find what you want, but you'll probably save much time over writing your own or having to adapt something that's not quite right.

And the search itself is a pleasant way to kill a few hours

No one cares about me

I assume that no one else has ever thought of this, so I guess I need to hack it in myself. It seemed like a good idea to me.
