Re: Good Groupware\Project Management OSS exist!

How would you want to see it integrated with XOOPS?

Only authentication and a link in the main menu for example or do you mean integration in another way?

Re: Discussion on Xoops goals and motives of Xoopers within Xoops

I started working with XOOPS when I was looking for a way to create a web site where people could post their travel stories and find links to other travel related web sites. When I discover that there were free CMS applications that could do the job I started digging into it and soon I discovered that XOOPS was the best CMS for what I planned to do. I started learning php and I fascinated with the almost endless possibilities this application provides I was soon able to write my own modules. The side effect however was that I kind of lost focus on the travel site

I have many things on my to do list for the coming XOOPS year:

*) Complete the Directory module I started working on over a year ago.
*) Create a number of XOOPS themes (I want to improve my design skills )
*) Create a transactions module for credit card payments that allows other modules to easily integrate payments.
*) Write documentation for non-technical users.

I might come up with more things but for now I think that I can keep myself busy with those items, too busy at least to work on the travel site .

Re: Cant insert images via FCKeditor HELP!

I have the same problem, it has something to do with server settings and only the host can solve it (although I am not sure how yet).

To work around this problem I now use the Mastop Publish module. It uses the default XOOPS image manager which is integrated in the Mastop WYSIWYG editor. Another great benefit is that you can have different titles in the menu than in the actual content.

You can find the module here: Mastop Publish module for XOOPS

Re: is it time for a lead project manager?

Marco, this example perfectly shows a couple the difficulties with managing a project like this.

Good point MadFish, if we apply this to the site restructure example, I think openness in the status reports of projects and tasks can be useful. New ideas how to solve a deadlock on a project or task can come from anybody who wants to participate. It does not guarantee a solution but at least the community gets a chance to step into a project or think about it.

Then to the point of making decisions, should there be a leader for each project to come to a decision? I think in every project people involved have different views. We can never agree on everything so there should be a way to force decisions when necessary.

Quote:

* Maintaining a list of tasks that need doing
* Trying to encourage people to take on particular jobs
* Encouraging people to work together
* Encouraging debate on a common direction
* Encourage community comment and review on technical contributions and suggestions from community members
* Delegating any or all of the above to others!

Anyone interested community member could:
* Take on tasks that need doing
* Propose new tasks or improvements
* Provide input on direction of that aspect of xoops
* Help review technical contributions and suggestions from community members.

If we take an example of something that has been on the list for a long time: the XOOPS site restructure

How would you think this is best arranged? Apart from the items mentioned above, where do you start? Who has a stake in this project?

Note: I have no idea what the current status of the site restructure is at the moment

I also like web-M's suggestion, with the request to give enough room for input and ideas from the rest of the community.

Re: is it time for a lead project manager?

Can somebody please put a hack in the forum so that long posts are not lost when the session time has expired at the moment of posting (this post is going to be a lot shorter than my original one)

First of all I think this is a good initiative, but to semi quote winsion:Quote:
... who has the keys of the house of xoops?
To set up a management like this you will need a consensus of the key players.

The reason why the previous core team/management team construction failed was because there was no consensus, neither in the management team, nor in the community.

I think this is something to take into account when you work out this idea. Good luck and looking forward to hear more of this.

Cheers

I am surprised learning that there is not a private forum at xoops.org
In our case (xoopsgreece.gr) it was made this way from the very first day!

What we have (different Groups):
Public forum: open to everybody – no need to register in order to read (and informed), must register to post.
Private forum for the administration team.
Private forum for the moderator’s team.

There are several private forums for administrators and moderators on xoops.org, just not for all registered users (AFAIK).

There are those that don't!

That is WHY the MEMBERS ONLY AREA would be a very good idea.
IT would be ONE category

To post messages you need to be a member. The people who do not know how to behave are also members and they will probably log in as well to follow the discussions.

And to be blunt: For business use, I can't recommend XOOPS in a proposal when I know the first thing the client (or in my case, donor) is going to see on xoops.org is a battlefield.

If they log on and see it, fine, but then at least it would be in a forum marked 'management issues' or something like that.

This sounds like a valid resaon to me. I think it may help at least to some extend.
