I'll note that the link Mambo provided saves as XU-002 but the document itself says XL-001. We're an anarchic organization of a community team and sometimes things aren't always clear. Apologies; thanks for pointing it out. Do let us know if this latest one that Mambo pointed you to wasn't the XU-002 document you were using. If it wasn't, try it and then report back. Thanks!

Glad you got it solved.

SPF (sender policy framework) is a fairly decent fix to a problem related to spam. Without SPF, it is very easy to spoof a message. I can send a message "from" any email address pretty easily. What SPF does is give mail servers a method to check whether or not the originating server that sent the message is one that is actually allowed to do so. It's a verification of whether or not the message actually was sent by the sender or not based on the server used to send it. The information is stored in the DNS for the domain which is ostensibly administered by the domain owner thus giving control to the domain owner.

There are still some related issues, but it's a huge step over not having SPF at all. Another one in fairly common use by Google and Yahoo among others is DKIM which signs messages using a private public key combination.

Apologies for not being clear in asking my questions. My understanding is that you had an existing version of SmartSection. Before you started having any problems, what version? Or did you start new with XOOPS 2.4.4 and SmartSection 2.14 and you were able to install it but not update it?

To fix a problem, as a developer, one must re-create it. Help me to understand the full path you took to create the problem, from start to finish, and maybe I can recreate the problem and fix it.

See these links:

Moving XOOPS
XOOPS Upgrade Notes

These two documents should get you through most anything related to moving and upgrading a site.

Good luck!

what version are you trying to upgrade FROM?

I'll see if I can find some time to replicate the issue. I haven't moved all my production sites from 2.3.x to 2.4.4 yet; been too busy with client work to make that effort yet especially since there are some changes.

But, I can throw this up onto a clean version of 2.4.4 and see, but I'd need to know what version you are moving from.

when you send the email the "normal" way and when you send it from XOOPS, do they come from the same mail server? Do you use SPF? What about DomainKeys? As Ghia asked, what is different about the two messages? Since we don't know the domains or the IP address, it's hard to see if those are setup correctly and/on on RBLs. If your www and mail servers are the same, then it really shouldn't be an issue, but if they aren't then it's possible that one or the other is on an RBL or your SPF/DKIM setup specifies one and not the other.

Please provide the entire email bounce response (redacting appropriate information).

First, I'm going to assume that the admin@mysite.nl actually exists and that I could send an email to that address. If not, you'll want to fix that. Can YOU send a message from the admin@mysite.nl address to your hotmail address that actually works? Do you send from the same server? What is different between the headers?

Your Message-ID looks just fine.

It looks like the From name could be your problem but without the error code and bounce message from Hotmail, it could be difficult to know for sure.

I'd run with the permissions problem. I doubt that it's a problem with the permissions of directories and files with XOOPS as I'd assume your hosting company knows how to get Fantastico working on their servers, that and Silmarwen said that XOOPS was working itself.

However, sometimes the files uploaded or unzipped or untarred and moved into the modules directories don't match those in the rest of the installation.

Make sure the new modules directories and their files are generally the same permissions as those on the XOOPS directories and files (and the system module).

Also, I highly recommend, after you get things going, to start over without the Fantastico installation. I've seen people have problems with those. Personally, I think Fantastico (and Softaculous) is a great resource for trying out some of the popular PHP apps, but a production setup should be done carefully by hand. Just one opinion.

Included in the download, after extracting will be a zip file with a name like formulize_date_update or something like that (I'm not at my office atm). That contains the "fix"/hack. However it's based on a file from like 2.0.7 or something like that. While it will work as is in 2.3.3b and before (and possibly after, but I think 2.4.x has jQuery calendar in it now), it doesn't include a couple of security changes that happened to the files since then. However, there are instructions about how to incorporate it in the formulize docs that are included with the download and in their on-line instructions. Myself, I did a diff of the changes with the original file and then incorporated those changes into the latest versions of the files.

More info on page 1 item 4 of the Formulize 3.1 Readme pdf.

In that document it points to a write-up of the date issue as provided to the XOOPS core team eons ago and was never incorporated for some reason or another (that was during the reign of the team that created the now-abandoned/incorporated 2.2 branch. Maybe I should take that on as a personal task.

Anyhoos, hope that helps.
