I am using XOOPS 2.2.5, is it only available for XOOPS 2.0.x?

Perhaps. I have no experience with the 2.2 branch at all. Sorry.

Well,

First you have to go to some place like versign.com and purchase a SSL certificate. Once you've done that, they'll send you the certificate and the instructions that you need to install that servicate onto your Web Server. In my case, this mean installing the certificate into a specific folder and configuring Apache to use that certificate.

Then, you can tell XOOPS to use SSL for login authentication in Admin -> System Administration - Preferences -> **SSL Stuff**.

The "SSL Stuff" is:
"Use SSL for Login"
"SSL Post Variable Name"
"URL Where SSL Login Page is Located"

Once you've filled all this stuff in, then your users should see a secure page whenever they try to log in to your site.

Please remember, however, that the vast majority of this activity is with your web server environment and outside the scope of XOOPS itself.

Well, what I mean is, every URL on my site starts with https:// instead of justhttp://. So, functionally speaking, the site works exactly the same as it would without encryption. You can log on. You can bounce around areas that are available only to you. Everything. It's just that every single page gets encrypted (which, I'm sure, slows site performance a little).

But I don't have to worry about any particular form or block that asks for a user name/password. Since the whole site is SSL, the logins get encrypted too.

My site is behind a firewall and I run the *entire* site as https. This way I don't have to worry about any specific login form or block that either the XOOPS system uses or any particular module might use.

I'm not really sure that my situation makes sense for a 'normal' site though.

That's funny. I was replying to the other post (hadn't seen this one yet) just as you were deleting it. I submitted and then got a couple of messages about not being able to access the post!

Oh well, the problem of people trying to quickly answer every doubled post on the forum is much better than them sitting dormant! :)

What do you mean by "admin nav bar"? Are you talking about the fly-out/pop-up menu as you move your cursor over the System Admin button?

If so, then you don't, strictly speaking, really need it. You can click the button to have the main area of the page display the same links.

There are, however, occasional modules that contain links in the pop-up menu that aren't available in the main area of the page. In that's your worry, then I've got to ask:

Which version of XOOPS are you running?
Which browser are you using to access Xoops?

I know this isn't what you were asking for...

I use XoopsGallery (version 1 series) myself. My only beefs with it are the less than glamorous templates (which I could make better if I'd get off my lazy butt and do it) and the flat structure for category storage. No matter how many categories/sub-categories you define, they all end up as folders in a single directory on disk. This isn't a big deal for any gallery that I've seen people use. My gallery, however, has tens of thousands of pictures across hundreds (probably thousands) of categories. Needless-to-say, parsing all of these takes time.

...just my 2 cents.

I am by no means an LDAP authentication expert, but I believe that synchronizing is beyond the scope of Xoops. On our intranet, we use special facilities to set our LDAP passwords. These facilities sync our password across many systems. My XOOPS site, however, isn't one of these systems.

My point to you is that using the XOOPS screens to change your password only changes your local XOOPS password. If you disabled Standard LDAP authentication and went back to XOOPS authentication, then your user's password would probably be the new one that they entered. Since your LDAP directory probably existed before you ever set up your XOOPS site (at least I hope it did -- there's no reason to go through these LDAP hoops if your setting up your LDAP server just for Xoops! Just use XOOPS authentication!), you probably already have some defined process for changing your LDAP password. In this case, just tell your users to use that existing process. Once they do this, they'll immediately be able to use their new password from XOOPS using LDAP authentication.

--hope this helps...

Thanks for the replies. The site in question, however, is my intranet portal at work, not LankfordFamily.com.

One other thing, how do you get an avatar on Xoops.org?
