BS,

I disagree. Please see the XOOPS Certified Local Support Site Guidelines.

Local Support Sites are not built and/or managed by the XOOPS Project and XOOPS Foundation. They are built by community members for community members. They receive "Official Recognition" as a Local Support Site, but they are not "Official" XOOPS Project sites, there is a difference here.

"Official" sites are owned and managed by the XOOPS Project/XOOPS Foundation.

"Officially Recognized" sites are built by community members, for community members.

To force Local support sites to adhere to a strict guideline of theme and domain would be to remove elements of control over the site from the community that built it.

I thought we were trying to move away from a situation where the Project decided what the community could and could not do.

IMHO, the only websites that should be under the control and management of the XOOPS Project/XOOPS Foundation are www.xoops.org (Project Homepage) and docs.xoops.org (Project Documentation). ALL other sites should be built by and managed by the community.

Thank you Mark. Your clarification is appreciated.

To go into further detail here...

When a folder is chmod 777, that means that anyone who has a hosting account on that particular server can access that folder.

chmod broken down:
First bit = User
Second bit = Group
Third bit = World (everyone)

Therefore, with chmod 777 everyone on that server can write to that folder.

This is a clear example of why suEXEC should be implimented as it allows for chmod 755 permissions, which are much more secure.

Unfortunately, many hosts do not support suEXEC and you have to deal with such issues. What you can do to protect yourself is to experiment with the permissions, like chmod 775, and by using the capabilities of an .htaccess file to help protect you.

Remember, the only secure server is the one at the bottom of the ocean. Diligence and knowledge are the best defenses we have.

All talented and logical additions to the Core Dev Team. However, I would recommend an odd number team to prevent dead lock in situations where voting is necessary.

Still, excellent collection of developers!

Mark,

Just for clarification, were the directories that were compromised chmod 777 or are you using suEXEC?

Thanks for the heads up!

Skalpa has bills to pay, just like the rest of us. I can't count how many times I've worked when ill because I have a family to provide for. Why should it be any different for Skalpa? Nobody said he was dead, just ill.

While I cannot even remotely classify myself in the same class as you and studioC (you both have my utmost respect), I would like to join a design team where we can take XOOPS from the sloppy table-based, *NUKE-like designs that are so prolific in XOOPS to true, standards-compliant, "web 2.0" designs (and beyond).

My qualifications? Well, I've released some themes for XOOPS, but none truly exhibit what I *can* do.

Training: None. What I know is the fruit of self-study and working with a large community of designers here and elsewhere.
Experience: 4 years of using and designing for XOOPS, other CMS systems and custom code.
Motivation: I have spent the last year studying the code of the best of the best in Open Source CMS designers. While I'm not as good as incama, studioC, and others at code and as good as snow77, DefianceB0y, and others at Graphics Design, I bring with me a "big picture" mentality where I can see, understand and communicate all of the pieces that make up a quality theme.

If your team will have me, I would gladly contribute what I can with the intention of helping XOOPS move forward and becoming the benchmark for website design.

Sounds like your hosting provider has implimented the open_basedir security tweak in WHM.

You'll need to make sure all of your files for that site reside in the folder it references in allowed path(s):

specifically:

/mnt/156/sdb/e/9/mercenary.theatre
